Breaking a journey (outward)

I'm going from Cardiff Central-newport-Bristol temple meads I want to break my journey at newport can I get away with buying a return from cardiff Central - Bristol or will I have to do return - newport. And a newport - Bristol return?

I seems to me that you would be fine with an Off-Peak Day Return ticket, the restriction code is W1 which doesn't place limits on break of journey in either direction.

The answer is that BoJ is allowed both outward and return for this trip whether you buy an anytime return, an anytime day return, or an off peak day return
