I hoped it might encourage people to follow the link anyway though. Must have been a difficult job in recent weather conditions.
Good idea. It would certainly have been cold and uncomfortable!

The repair looks pretty sturdy and hopefully addresses the cause of failure as well as any of the additional concerns posted up thread.

Apologies if this is a daft question/if the works are unfinished, but surely that reinforcement is going the full length of the bridge? Im not a civils engineer however...

An earlier photo did confirm the parapet had been removed over the full length, so it would be very odd if the repair didn’t also cover the full length.

Surely the RAIB should be interested in preventing any future events cause by a failure of safety - critical infrastructure . And the parapet must be safety-critical, otherwise the line would not have to be closed for emergency repairs. It's repair would have been put into the long-term program of works, like the renovation of any other bridge.

As Scotrail Driver says, these works are planned years in advance. I believe approaches were made to secure additional midweek access on a number of routes but the ghost trains for essential workers mean they were rejected. If you think thats crazy, ask about the cancelled Easter works on the West Coast to allow people to travel!
