Nice to see a thread on train interiors, which always seem very neglected compared to the exteriors! I find it jarring that so many heritage lines use non-standard fabrics now for refurbs. You wouldn't paint the exterior in any old made-up ivery, so why is the interior any different? I am sure getting replica fabrics made isn't cheap though.

Moquette is very expensive to purchase. I was involved in a project that needed some new for squab panels etc. We had to buy multiple times more than we needed and sell most of it on to other groups.

There should be a decent market for the more popular, authentic designs though.

I do share your view on these points - it's the interior's most passengers must see the most of after all. But as you say the authentic fabrics are not cheap - but I'm always impressed when restoration projects commission reproduction accurate ones.

Yes, that looks identical to the moquette i remember.

when the Mark 2Fs were introduced the IC70 seats ditched moquette in favour of fabric, which was meant to be machine washable. An orange pattern in First Class and blue (with thin chocolate stripes) in Standard Class.

These seat covers were referred to as "loose covers" in that they were only attached to the cushions and squabs by velcro. At BREL York when the coaches were given a service they would be removed and washed in an industrial sized washing machine and then replaced.

Probably why there are fewer reproduction First Class moquettes available. Coaches that made it into preservation likely had the BR designs (Charcoal, Orange variants) or NSE ones. Very few air conditioned coaches have gone into preservation, even fewer with InterCiry interiors intact. Whereas Red Dogger was used on a number of Mark 1s.

Indeed. I should imagine anything a bit unusual is hard to come by. It wouldn't surprise me if the manufacturers had some Trojan and Bournmouth Blue off the shelf though.

Does anybody have a first class mark 2d or e picture when loco hauled services were used to cover certain hst services to Plymouth and cornwall in 2001 02 03 please I have standard class but not first class interior thank you in advance
