Hi there,
I'm looking for some ticket advice for expensing a Standard fare but sitting in First.

Details:
My company will only reimburse a 'Standard Fare' ticket, no debates.

I need to travel from London to Chester on a weekday morning.

Suggested train time is 08:40, but I'm also willing to travel at 08:10

Current fares for ticket types are:

08:10 - Advance - £107
08:10 - First Class Advance - £137

08:40 - Advance - £125
08:40 - First Class Advance - £183

08:10 is direct
08:40 has a change in Crewe

Questions:

If I buy the 08:40 Advance for £125 initially, am I correct in my understanding that I can later change/upgrade to 08:10 First for £22 (£10 change fee + £12 fare difference)

If the above isn't true, if I buy the 08:10 Advance, can I buy a supplementary upgrade to First for £30?

Clearly my need is to have an Standard ticket that I can submit for expenses, and then figure out how to upgrade to First after that.

Thanks,
