C158s, the air conditioning is useless, and so is the heating !

unless your in 1st class the seats on a 185 tend to be a bit 'solid' for my liking. 170 rules supreme for comfort IMO, I'd catch the hull train every day to and from Hudds if it wasn't so busy.

Have you been on a class 185 ?
Yeah, they're okay, but like others have said the solid seating in Standard is not my favourite.

Turbostars are good but there are lots of varieties, like the 158s really. That said I've yet to try a bad one.

The only thing I think there is missing from the Turbos is an end corridor.

I find the leg room on Class 185s to be by far the best of any DMU, with the possible exception of C175s/C180s.
Personally I`ve never been on a C185 with inoperable aircon, though I`m not saying this means it never breaks down !

I have found that on all the Desiro units, the air con is always set just a little too low, unless its blazing hot outside. Even on moderate days, after a long journey, I step off the train with cold hands/nose.

WRT the 158's, I use Northern every morning for my commute and I have to say the state of some of their units is appalling. The fans are still running on the air-con which makes the whole coach rather noisy for no reason, even if there is no heating/cooling actually available.

And some of the units dont half smell damp - probably because alot of the windows leak, among other things.
