Hmm well I'm doing the Eus to Inv the last weekend of April as the beds are diverted along the ECML and I'm sorta banking on a 92 as I still need one for Doncaster to Newcastle. Still gotta few weeks yet, fingers crossed lol
That could be the weekend the Lowlander is switching to Mk5s which will mean several 92s changed to Mk5 1500v ETS and not able to work the Highlander - which instead will be operated by 90s or the likes of 92032/044 which aren’t getting converted.

Where from, just out of interest? I thought that 2nd June was the planned date for its introduction? April seems a bit soon, particularly on the Highlander...

A pal in central station was told by a Caledonian Sleeper staff member, but might have been miscommuniccated.

Also heard that a large number of crew on an Inverness bound sleeper were sacked on the spot a few weeks ago for being “drunk” with the train being cancelled, can anyone back this up or have I heard b*llocks!

Still only 56 of 75 Mk5 coaches in the UK. There's no chance they'll be rolled out across ALL services in a little over a month from now.

The only Inverness-bound service cancelled recently was due to an electrical issue with one of the Mk2 lounges.

Not sure this (second hand) info is particularly reliable...??

This sounds entirely implausible (I happen to know a number of the Inverness-based crew personally) for many reasons. I wonder if such a fantasy has been invented by someone with an axe to grind against CS (for whatever reason), not least because on the one night this year that the Inverness service was cancelled (11th February), the Inverness crew had to travel north on the Lowlander to Glasgow/Edinburgh and by day train back to base, getting back very late (not until 12 noon). There is simply no chance that an incident like that could have occurred in those circumstances. In any case, the Inverness crew that I know are extremely dedicated and professional and would never even conceive of acting in that way while on duty.

I don’t doubt or disagree with anything you have said but an inverness bound sleeper does not necessarily mean an inverness based crew.

Sorry folks, judging by the reactions on here think I need a new source... Second hand information can always be dodgy.

Paul Lucas feels confident that June 2nd will be the first official fare paying running of the Mk5's on the Highland CS.

I admire Paul Lucas’ confidence and optimism (whoever he is).

I was travelling in the same carriage as some the Inverness crew on the ScotRail service the night the sleeper was cancelled. The staff were exceptional throughout and a real credit to the railway-which I made known both in person at head office (which the staff took those of us with connections over to) and by email. Hugely contradictory to the extraordinary allegation above!

When are all 75 carriages due to be in the UK?

I’d say given the chatter I have heard around the new stock I’m 75% sure it will run. As I’ve booked an ensuite berth, CS will have to offer me the option of a refund should the old stock make an appearance.

That doesn't necessarily mean what Craig2601 said is true. As an employer you simply aren't allowed to 'sack people on the spot'. So it seems like a case of Chinese whispers.

In the interests of decorum, it's probably best that people don't post unconfirmed speculation on the matter.

The railway generally in times where staff are found on duty and under the influence are suspended after a med screen and positive samples found. Then a dismissal hearing happens, unless the staff resign with immediate effect which happens regularly instead of being taken down the dismissal road.

Currently heading north to Crewe on the 0735 from Euston. We passed what I think was the inbound Highlander around Queen‘s Park. It passed us rather fast but appeared to be a class 86 leading a class 92 (87002 was at Euston on the Lowland ECS) and only a half set of stock. Has something gone wrong along the way?

It was a Sleeper-liveried Class 92 (038) with a green Freightliner Class 90 (90041) Dead In Train (DIT) on 1M16 as a planned loco positioning move. Arrived Right Time Euston.

Anyone know what's supposed to be running the Highlander today? I'm on it from Inverness.
