Is all of the Canada Dock Branch double-tracked now? I read that it had been agreed to double-up the track on the final section into the Port of Liverpool back in 2019 but never heard if it was completed.

That's a section of line that could do with electrification, particularly given how much busier the port is with Liverpool 2 opening.

It was meant to be done by the end of the month, don't know if it has. This will be a loooooooong way down the list for wires.

It's only a few yards that are being doubled anyway, only up to the scrap metals branch at Strand Road. Leccy won't be happening anytime soon.

With the move to 'last mile' electric locos there is no need to electrify freight branches (quite apart from the impossibility of wiring any Depot where goods are top-loaded)

Thanks for sharing. And thanks to everyone else that answered.

You seem to have your docks mixed up. The Canada Dock branch left the current line at Atlantic Junction and was closed to passengers in 1941 and to goods on 12/09/1982. The line that is still open was I think called the Alexandra Dock branch. This obviously has been extended to both the biomass terminal, Stanton Grove and Seaforth Container Terminal. There is also access at Alexandra Dock to the scrap terminal.

I was going off what I'd heard it called in the press and on Wikipedia.
