I commute Sheffield to Chesterfield and get a monthly season (I'd like to get a longer duration to save money, but cashflow precludes this)
I have just checked the price of a monthly season to Dore and it is £5ish cheaper. To get to Dore currently I would have to go into Sheffield and out, so would I be OK to get a Sheffield-Dore season and just get off at Sheffield?
To complicate/simplify matters I actually have a South Yorkshire Travelmaster provided by work that I could use to get off/on Sheffield station if challenged

:-? Are you saying is it o.k. to purchase a Chesterfield to Dore/Totley monthly season ticket (priced at £85-30) instead of a Chesterfield to Sheffield monthly season ticket (priced at £90-70), and then alight at Sheffield on the £85-30 ticket? If so, this does not seem unreasonable on the basis that there are no direct trains between Chesterfield and Dore/Totley that do not first call at Sheffield en route.

The National Rail conditions of carriage have this to say on the matter:
"(a) You may travel between the stations shown on the ticket you hold in:
(i) a through train;
(ii) trains which take the shortest route which can be used by scheduled
passenger services; or
(iii) trains which take the routes shown in the National Routeing Guide
(details as to how you can obtain this information will be available
when you buy your ticket)."
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/system/galleries/download/misc/NRCOC.pdf

Now, if any of the Central Norwich-Liverpool services stop at Dore these days, they also stop at Sheffield on the way, so you would be valid on these between Chesterfield-Sheffield by part i.
The shortest route between Chesterfield-Dore is via Sheffield, as there are no platforms at Dore on the Derby lines. The procedure in the routeing guide for calculating the shortest route is to refer the the National Rail timetable, which can be found on the Network Rail website. Dore does not appear in table 53 so the shortest route from this source must be via Sheffield.
Therefore, you are valid as you state.

Yes, you would.

You can break your journey anywhere on any permitted route when using a season ticket. Sheffield is on the permitted route for a Chesterfield - Dore journey.

Thanks, thought so. Of course if they do get round to building the rumoured derby line platforms at Dore, I can still buy the same ticket as my travelmaster will cover Dore to Sheffield! (assuming I have the same job by then)

There is currently no other way than going via Sheffield so it will certainly be valid!

Sorry, don't understand the relevance of prices to New Mills?

It seems that with the latest price increases Chesterfield - Dore is now the same price as Chesterfield - Sheffield anyway
