3-Day BIG DIESEL 'THRASH!'

We've listened to the many enthusiasts who said they would travel with us if we put on a 3-Day Big Diesel 'Thrash!'

So we've set the dates for Thur 11 May, Fri 12 May, and Sat 13 May 2017 and we have agreements with the respective owners to hire in 5-Big Heritage Diesels.

And, of course, our unique resident Class 17 Clayton will be thrashing along with the others (and full power on its two engines too!).

It's heavy haulage at it best and with gradients like our 1-68 Chinnor Bank (and there's others, including quite a bump at the Princes Risborough end of the Line): it will be a really, very intensive, 3-Day Big Diesel 'Thrash!'

Each Big Heritage Diesel will be announced separately just as soon as we conclude everything and they will be shown firstly on our official Facebook page here, and then 48-hours afterwards we will include them on this page of our website. So keep a look out on Facebook - thanks!

We will also have bright Ale at pub prices (what would a Big Diesel Gala be... without it?), and we'll also have bottle conditioned Ales, plenty of soft drinks and tea, coffee and snacks etc. Stephanie and her Ladies in our Cambrian Tea Room will serve hot Bacon Rolls, Sausage Baps, and the usual range of moderately priced sandwiches and home-made cakes etc throughout the day.

BUY YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE WITH ADVANTAGES:

First off, it's cheaper... (even taking into account the £2 Agency booking fee).

When you buy your ticket in advance your details will be entered into our Money-can't-Buy Free Prize Draw and on each day of the Big Diesel 'Thrash!' there will be TWO places available each day (one per winner) enabling you to get close up and personal and ride in the cab of the lead locomotive for a selected approximately 2-hour timeslot on the day of your visit. How good is that?!

Also, for the Photographers, when you buy your ticket in advance we will have a very limited number of Photographic Permits available for £25 each and you will have the possibility with 3 others on a timed 2-hour slot to visit the top floor of our partially restored Princes Risborough North Signalbox to take some unique images of the cavalcade (and the Chiltern Mainline, of course!). We will also have a specially fenced off area outside the 'box at ground level for use only by these Permit holders for some more unique location shots. Details on how to obtain a permit will be posted here shortly.

And for those who buy your ticket in advance and who will be arriving and returning home by mainline train from Princes Risborough station - we are investigating the possibility of putting a connecting bus service into operation (that's hopefully in keeping with the age of the Big Heritage Diesels) between both stations on Thur 11 May & Fri 12 May only. The 'bus link will be FREE and only available for advance ticket holders. Again, details to follow shortly.

We also have a car park at Chinnor station with limited capacity and for those who buy your ticket in advance it will be FREE to park. P.S. There's also a cafe and souvenir shop available at Chinnor station.

DEPARTURE TIMES:

We are working on it and the aim is to run from Chinnor right through to Princes Risborough on the 3-Day Big Diesel 'Thrash!'. But please note you cannot join or alight at Princes Risborough until we have restored the original 1906 platform - expected Autumn 2017. The special timetable will generally be in operation between 09.30 and 17.00 each day.

Announcing our next guest a bit earlier than intended....We're proud to announce Class 50, 50026 'Indomitable', courtesy of Paul Spracklen, will be attending the 3 day BIG DIESEL THRASH. 50026 has a very special connection with our railway...50026 was the last Class 50 to stop at Prince Risborough on a booked stop on the Paddington to Banbury runs on the 11th of May, 1990. The very same 50 will stop in princes Risborough exactly 27 years later, how about that!

And now for guest number 4 of our BIG DIESEL THRASH....When we said BIG DIESEL, we meant it! Thus, we're very pleased to announce Class 45 45041 'The Royal Tank Regiment' courtesy of the Peak Locomotive Company Ltd. This will be the first Class 45 to visit the line since 1988. This will also be your very first opportunity to ride behind a Peak on the steep Chinnor branch!

That's a very loud press release. Is coaching stock being hired in - that damp and rotting CEP/CIG or whatever that was used last year does certainly not scream "big thrash" unless every other loco is going to be dead on the back!! Even the trains that didn't have an 08 on were a complete trundle.

We'll have the 3CEP in operation and also a 5 Coach Mark 1 rake. The reason last year we only used the 3CEP with only with the 66 is that the 3CEP is the only air braked stock that we have.

Load 5 sounds a much better proposition :)

the 3CEP will have 31163 added for dead weight plus the trailing loco as all trains will be Top and tail into Princes Risborough due to no run round loop.
So the CEP plus dead 31 is about equal to load 6 and thats before you add passengers. add the trailing loco in, the weight racks up nicely :D

ts been a while since our last locomotive announcement for the 3 day BIG DIESEL THRASH. So, without further a do, our fifth and final engine, with a big thanks to GBRf, will be a Class 66. This will be the second Class 66 to visit our line within a year. Advance bookings are still currently open that will not only save you cash, but time on the day!

Evening star green 66 would be very nice, don't think it's ever visited a preserved railway before

It will be cool to have a descent gala there with a few good locos.
And as 47771 is going to be based there I will definitely need to get it for haulage as it was an ex RES brush. Hellfire!

Can anyone explain the mention on the CPRR website that the guest locos will not include 47192, "which will be stabled out of view and not used"? Why will it be there at all, and if so why hidden away?

Most of us are hoping for Evening Star 66 as well, would fit in with the GWR feel of our line.
However, it's already worked a tour, so will bring in very few people compared to one that hasn't worked... very few, if any, turn up for a 66 that has worked so accessibly previously as they are dull as dishwater to most bar maybe a handful of misguided soles!

Agreed, anyone who wants 66779 for haulage will have had it last year, or be going for it on the tour it is planned to work in August. The line needs a 66 that is going to bring in the punters who will spend their money, not one which looks nice.

47192 will be stored out the way in Princes Risborough due to Crewe Heritage centre not being able to supply a rep which is a shame as it'd have been the first 47 on the Chinnor branch since 1990. So I guess that the next 47 on our branch will be 771 in a year or twos time.
Regarding the 66 that GBRf will supply, we wont know which one we'll get. In essence, it'll be the same one Swanage have. Since GB bent over backwards to spare a 66 for us, I don't think it'd be reasonable not to be cheeky to specify a specific 66. Maybe next year thou.

Why is it same as Swanage? Will it bring convoy in.
