Was the case for most of this past week though, no doubt due to 197 availability, so could well be a common occurrence for a few more weeks

This week? The Chester shuttles has been 197004 Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. 197046 on Thursday (swapped for 051 in afternoon) and 197046 again today.

Pembroke Dock line is often single cars, although I think booked for 2 cars. Also single 153s appear on Fishguard Harbour services quite often.

Pre-COVID, in 2018 or 2019 I think, the Lowestoft to Ipswich via Darsham service was often a single-car 153. Wikipedia now says it's FLIRTs. Does anyone know when this changed?

Around the 2019 - 2020 if I recall, They left before the 156s, which were if I remember correctly all with EMR by 2021.

They transferred to TfW in 2020, and they were in a pretty shocking state even by 153 standards.
