Which journeys are the Class 153s operated with Class 158s on the Settle Carlisle line?

The 08:xx off of Leeds on a Saturday used to have one quite often. Seems a lot more variable in the last couple of years.

Only once in the last 2 weeks has a 153 worked,
01/12 2H96 16:22 Leeds - Carlisle was made up of 153360 153330 158844 so possibly some sort of substitution ?

The 10:49 to Leeds via Settle from Carlisle this morning was a 150. (150220). Ive never seen a 150 on this service before, how often does this happen?

The 13:40 service is a 158 + 153 so the 153's do sometimes still come to Carlisle.

The following are booked 153 +158
SX
2H10 0517 LDS-CAR
1M53 0919 LDS-CAR
2H90 1318 LDS-CAR
2H85 0824 CAR-LDS
1E65 1340 CAR-LDS
2H95 1618 LDS-CAR
Everything else is booked for 158's and all SO & SUN services are 158's
Whereas before Neville Hill always provided the units for S & C, they are manly Heaton units with only a few Neville Hill ones allocated.

2H95 must be CAR-LDS - just for a moment I thought there was a 153 graveyard at Kingmoor...:)
OT: 1M53 is no longer by any stretch of the imagination a class 1.

it happens very occasionally. As far as I am aware there is no set patten it appears it is just when Northern are scratching around for any units when the normal 158’s or 153’s are not available.

From time-to-time, yes. Also three cars with a Class 153 tacked on to something else.

The latter was the case on Sunday and Tuesday this week when my journeys included this line and I made the mistake of sitting in the 153 on one of the journeys: drafty, noisy, rattles. On the other I sat in the two-car unit (Class 156 or 158?) which lacked closing vestibule doors and any effective heating. People sat in hats and coats throughout the journey.

As an aside, none of the units had been refreshed internally and gave a very poor impression.

Not checked, but the 0919 down would be a prime candidate in decent weather - 2 cars can be heaving.

Had a 2 carriage 158 on the 10:49 from Leeds. Very busy, but not ram packed.

Ideally there should be enough 153's to enable all day time services to operate as 3-carriage.

But why add one to the 1049 and return if it isn't needed?

It would have been more comfortable. for a scenic route.

Given people go on about building carriages with glass roofs etc, a 153 seems a lot easier.
