There was a 5 car in platform 4 at Chester this morning

Apparently the 1144 Llandudno-Manchester Piccadilly, and 1450 return working, were 2x175/0 last Saturday and the 1144 was again today (presumably meaning the 1450 will be too).

Last Saturday trains were only running Manchester-Chester and out of the 4 trains used for the day, one was formed of 2 x 2 car 175's for some reason while all others were 3 cars.

Ah okay, I was going from the time I was told at a particular point in it's journey and working from there, I didn't think of checking for engineering works :roll:

I suspect it was part of the reason they ran two 175's together. Useful for passenger numbers but not ideal for revenue, catering and operating...

The 1030 Carmarthen to Manchester is two 175/0's today! 011 is on the rear, couldn't see what the front unit was though!

I believe this then works 1V91 1630 Manchester to Cardiff and then 1B92 2015 Cardiff to Milford Haven, which is supposed to be booked for a 5-car 175.

Ah fair enough. It passed my house, about a mile west of Cardiff.

Moving sets around undiagrammed is nothing to get excited about. It has to be done all the time for 101 reasons such as getting to a Depot, covering shortage elsewhere or re-balancing etc.etc.etc.

A 5-car combination arrived at Holyhead just now, and will presumably be forming the 1232 to Maesteg. Nice sunshine here if anyone wants to take any pics!
