Class 185 refurbishment for TPE.

Noticed today that 185123, whilst in the new scheme, still has the unit numbers on the cab ends, instead of the sides as with the rest of the newly livered units. Does anybody know why?

I think it was the first one to be done.

123 and 108 were the launch units for the new livery, and had set numbers on the ends as before. All later reliveries did not have the numbers on the ends (apart from, IIRC, the one which carried Manchester Pride vinyls for a few weeks).

As for the why, I guess someone at FirstGroup feels they look untidy and there's no practical reason the numbers need to be there. I personally feel that without the numbers it looks like something is missing.

101 was seen at York today - should have formed a train to the Airport but couldn't due to the problems at Shaftholme. It was coupled to 110 which is still in the old livery

Interestingly, having seen 101/110 at York today, it was actually easier to identify 101 due to the numbers on the side as it was at the middle of the coupled set. The only time I have ever seen a benefit though (110 was quickly identified by carriage numbers anyway)

101 is now at Heaton. I brought it up to Newcastle tonight. It will therefore be allocated one of the following trains tomorrow

1F81 05:33 NCL-LIV via MAN
1F62 06:03 NCL-LIV via MCV
(5F82 05:03 XHT-MBR)
1F82 06:33 MBR-LIV via MAN
1F63 07:08 NCL-LIV via MCV

The set will therefore probably end up back at Newcastle or head to Scarborough by the end of the day

The sink is bigger but that's about it. Universal toilet has a niggly fault where the tap is turning itself on all the time draining the water tank....

1F70 cancelled at York. Went to Liverpool as part of a later service 6 vice 3. set is currently Newcastle bound having passed Tollerton approx 5 mins ago

Back on Heaton again tonight forming one of the above mentioned services again in the morning

I'm not meant to see this one - the freight train breakdown at Slawit kyboshed it! Might try again on Thursday when it's mi' day off!

101 currently sat at p9 at Newcastle. There was a 185 passed us around Chester le Street still in dynamic lines

If 185101 could be scheduled for either:

1E81 0715 Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough (09:12 from Leeds)

and/or

1F82 1650 Scarborough to Liverpool Lime Street

this coming Staurday the 12th, as I am booked on both for a trip out with the wife and friends to Scarborough (picking up from Leeds), that would be just smashing thank you!!! ;)

Nope, I meant '113. It was reported on here a couple of weeks ago that it had just gone in and it's only been back out in service since the beginning of this week. All of the other remaining units, barring '141, have been in passenger service this week.

Yay it's out on the weekend :D pity I'm going to Wigan in an hour to see the Newport to Appleby tour go through and it passes Manchester before my Edinburgh to Airport train back reaches the area :cry:

150 was earmarked to be out on Monday (14th)

Not heared it's not going to be....
150 should be back out on Monday - handover inspection happened Friday ready for return to service exam. 144 should now be stopped.

Is 150 expected to have had any of the 'refinements' discussed? Polished or replaced trim or repainted seats etc? Or will it come out in basically the same state as 101?
