Moderator note - split from:

Some suggestion that there will be a farewell event for the 315s on 26 November, which might indicate when they are likely to be finally withdrawn.

That's a clear hint at a Class 315 farewell tour. However, they are diagrammed to remain in service until Friday 9th December 2022 which looks as if it will be the last day now.

On paper at the moment perhaps but a short term alteration can easily change that if necessary.

A look at RTT for Sat 26/11/22 shows some 1Z** paths between Liverpool St and Shenfield, the limit of MTR's safety case.

Are the ROG(?) storage runs up to Northampton during 2020 of any relevance now? Passenger carrying PEP’s on the WCML (proper) don’t seem to have happened much before…

I better get my journeys in before they're gone for good. It pains me that I couldn't do the farewell tour for them back in 2020 when they were with London Overground due to covid.

It's a 315 farewell event as the 'Class 315 Preservation Society' has been asked to help out along with the Branch Line Society by MTR. However, by the looks of it, it will be what the 'Art Deco' 38 Stock event was like back in early September where you can buy tickets for specific time slots going Shenfield and back. Unconfirmed but the comments seem to suggest GA does not want to be a part of it, so it is confined to the only route they can operate.

**SAVE THE DATE** Saturday 26th Novemeber 2022. Our Friends at MTR have asked us to be involved in something very special!! More details will be announced shortly, meanwhile watch this space. **NB Headboard design is Copyright Class 315 Preservation Society 2019 - 2022. **

There will be tickets available for the morning, afternoon or all day according to the society. Confinement to Shenfield and back is more down to safety matters than anything GA. It should still be a good day despite the limitations.

It will be interesting to see how well-attended this event is compared with other recent stock farewells, given this is not the 315s' last day in service. They are continuing beyond 26th November, not that it has stopped the fonts of all knowledge on social media 'officially confirming' the 26th is their last day.

Message from the BLS on another forum is that tickets will go on sale from around 20:30 on Monday. With both the AM & PM option.

A bit of a shame the event is only going to be London to Shenfield & back a few times, all be it with some more unusual track thrown in [the connections between the main & 'electric' lines around the Ilford flyover both ways], but anywhere else would require more paperwork and not run on the safety case of MTR.

No doubt the tours will be popular with people wanting to say farewell on a nonstop run, who can't make the regular weekday diagram

Booking is now open for the Class 315 farewell on the Branch Line Society's website.

It's pricey at £31.50 per morning or afternoon slot, or £63 to do both if you're as mad as me. Compared with the GN 313 farewell at £25 all day, and the 314 send-off, £30 in donations for all three legs, it's a lot to do the same route all day.

For those preferring to stick with the regular operations, the last booked day of Class 315s on the full Liverpool Street - Shenfield route is Friday 4th November. From Monday 7th November, the 315s will survive on Liverpool Street High Level - Gidea Park peak time workings, including beyond the farewell tour into December.

At least you get 2 round trips from Liverpool Street to Shenfield for the money. Add in some more unusual track (does it do the track behind the back of the platform at Manor Park?). I suspect they will sell out, for those wanting to say farewell when the trains won't be super busy like they can get during the peak time runs, plus for the chance of a fast run from London to Shenfield.

Hopefully.. RTT shows a switch from IE to EL lines at Forest Gate Junction rather than Manor Park so fingers crossed! Only ever covered that section of track once on a Southend-Liverpool Street service in the Morning Rush Hour when there was disruption on the Up Main.

Line code IE is indeed the code needed to route a train round the back of Manor Park station, and is the much more unusual move. Before Liverpool St resignalling the route was permissive block signalled, which prevented its use for passenger trains.

Line code IL will bring you back to the up electric line through the crossover at the foot of Ilford flyover before Manor Park station, and is the one usually used as it is a much faster route.

I think I've only ever done that crossover at the foot of the flyover on some Ipswich - London GA services one Saturday in the last few months which got put that way to allow a nonstop Norwich - London train to pass. As well as during engineering works

This should be a good day out. Good on MTR for giving them a good send off, hopefully I'll get the day off for one last ride.

Hopefully the journey will encompass other areas of the route much less used against the regular service. Liv St LO platforms perhaps, Temple Mills lines, 12a at Stratford and maybe the down avoiding line at the flyover or bi-di before Forest Gate to get to the Electrics. I know that a friendly chat with the signaller can sometimes yield one or two surprise crossovers en-route.

Looks like a good day out. A few years ago, on several Sundays, they ran non-stop from Gidea Park to Shenfield and terminated in platform 1. More recently I have done several fairly rare moves around Stratford, Ilford and Seven Kings.

This tour needs to be postponed by a week because of the aslef strike see https://aslef.org.uk/publications/aslef-announces-another-day-strike-action.
Otherwise those who have booked tickets may no be able to make the tour because there aren't any trains!
It isn't going to be postponed - that has been confirmed elsewhere. The union is not in dispute with MTR Elizabeth Line and they are running a full service.

Tour participants will need to make alternative arrangements to reach the tour or seek a refund if their own trains aren't running.

And some people may have already made arrangements to stay in the area, or not be able to make the following week. The tour goes ahead as planned.
Some people “Not be able to make” is one way of putting why it’s on the 26th not the last day of operation I guess!
