Class 376 refurbishment?

I have noticed that the class 376s are still sporting yellow doors despite it being 2021 and the last trains to be refurbished (the 375s) were done since 2018
I heard a while ago Southeastern had plans to refurbish the 376s, although nothing has been done yet.
Does anyone know when/if the 376s will get a refurbishment?

Never heard anything about 376s being refurbed and the plan with 707s isn't linked to 376s in any way.

The metro fleet was always pretty tight so it does make some sense, I do still doubt it though as I would expect an announcement from SE unless it isn't confirmed due to covid.

They don't really need refurbishing anyway from my perspective. Yes the lighting is gloomy and aircon would be good but otherwise they seem fine.

Connex were deservedly derided but they sure got new train interior specs bang on.

Is it possible 376s hold the record for longest time spent in a livery from a past operator, which for 376s would be around 16-17 years for Connex, or if we technically consider SET being the one's to first operate them, 15 years.

Connex were deservedly derided but they sure got new train interior specs bang on.

New seat covers, maybe some new vinyl for the flooring. Repaint grab handles and maybe some new vinyl/paint on the outside. Whilst not as tired inside as some networkers they do need some TLC (which sadly wont last for long before someone decides the best place to rest their feet is on the seat opposite)

I agree. They are looking very tatty with paint peeling off, looking dead inside etc. The lack of TLC is showing after 15 years of no refurbishment. They need it majorly if they're to stay much longer.

Absolutely. No one can complain about any of the Connex fleet replacements. The early 375s were pretty luxurious.

They're a bit tired but nothing compared to many gloomy networkers (not the /9s) which I can see soldiering on for some time to come. It's amazing how some lighter vinyls on the floor on the /2s improved the interior ambience of networkers. A shame the bulk of those staying /0 and /1 are grey and caked in dirt with the whole interior very gloomy and unloved after 30 years with minimal change.

That 376s have gone 17 years without a refurb and most 465/466s for 30 shows how Metro routes are unloved by Southeastern though the continual DfT mess ups with the franchise are the real issue. The Metro network could and should be so much better.

The franchise has just been getting extensions/direct awards since 2012, and it really shows on the networker fleet, the 375s did get a refurb but they are far less likely to be replaced.

True, the 465/0s and /1s are looking more than a little tatty

I suspect capacity issues (both in refurb work space and loss of stock from revenue operations) prevented the following, but the 4 year extension in 2014 should have seen more conditions towards refurbishment set out for the whole fleet, including getting the 376s done better. They refurbished the Networkers for PRM legislation, I can't see why some more proper interior works couldn't have been possible while this work was going on as well. The 375 refurbishment was very good, and living on the Maidstone East line the significance of that work is plain to see when compared to the tatty 377s sub-leased to SE.

The 377/5s had a light refresh in 2016/7 whilst with TL receiving new vestibule carpet and side panels resprayed fixtures and new seat covers all in southern colours

Only a few units were done fully in the end, most 377/5s still have the original seat covers. Both 377163/164 were refreshed inside & repainted externally in 2019 as per all the other Southern 377s (albeit still in SN livery). Unfortunately that project hasn’t included 377/5s so they continue on in their pretty poor state. I’d sooner have a 465/9 along there than some of those 377s!

For a high density metro train, there seems a lack of handrails also, the open wheelchair/pushchair area in particular has nothing to hold onto if you're standing in the middle

Me neither mate. Their acceleration is 0.66 m/s2 btw.
707s are 0.85 m/s2, 375s 0.62 m/s2, Javelins 0.74, 465(Hitachi) 0.98 m/s2
465/2/9 and 466 are quicker to get to top speed than their /0 and /1 counterparts.

Makes me wonder if the 707s would be better off replacing 376s than some of the Networkers if they're better at both acceleration and internal layout than them, albeit 707s will have better internal layouts than any Networker type.
