Probably not a need for a full thread, but this video:

shows a full interior walkthrough for the class 460. However at the beginning the video starts at the DMFL end, where a short section of what appears to be 2+3 bench-style seating with a small table. It certainly doesn't look like first class, which is what should be there, and it doesn't look like standard either. Could someone tell me what this is and why it is there? Also note the curtains.

The original interior had a lounge
What a great interior
Shocking how cheap and nasty the 442 interior is in comparison

So I take it the bench seats at the start were the lounge?

I agree that the 460's were much more luxurious, but the 442's have got a slightly nicer first class I think.

They had their compartments for a while but then lost them when first class was transferred to the middle of the train.

Did the 442s retain their first class compartments or did thy become open coaches?

They did until the end of use with South West Trains - and fantastic they were! But lost them when the 442s were refurbished for use with Southern Gat Ex when the First Class was moved into the area once occupied by the 'snug' and buffet area.

I'd call the 442 the most comfortable British multiple unit I've ever ridden. But I never did a 460.
