Class 56 at York query

Early this morning at about 00:10 I was passing over the footbridge just south of Holgate Junction when I witnessed a Colas class 56 heading northbound with what appeared to be an engineers train. As it was dark & it caught me unawares I didn`t see the number. Can anyone identify the locomotive & the working please?

My best guess would be 56096 which was (listed as being) in Doncaster Decoy Yards yesterday afternoon ; but 56113 and 302 were in the Colas holding sidings ... so it's just a guess.
