A class 92 has just left Milton keynes heading south at the head of a box train - do they often run on these services? It was was a dbs locomotive. Havent seen one on these services

It was 4A73 1418 Trafford Park to Wembley. It's a new DBS container flow forming one of their paths to the Channel Tunnel from Wembley. Today could be the first time it's run. TOPS shows Rheinhausen as the eventual destination.

Class 92s are the usual traction for DBS container trains up and down the WCML, particularly those, like this one, that run through to the continent via Wembley and Dollands Moor. There's loads of them knocking about the West Coast, especially at night. Though 66s also work container trains under the wires.

It's been running for ages; normally runs as 4O85 leaving Trafford Park at 18:18 - probably yesterday's train running late - it went north late. 4A73 is one of those paths in the system which only gets used when something is a bit out of kilter.

Thanks, I was wondering whether that was the case.

thanks guys - just found it strange to see one during day light! One often runs the bottled water train in the afternoon

That was a 66 today, did you see the pair of 90s going north with it on Monday(about an hour late)? I have never seen that before though have seen a single 90 go north light engine to bring the empties back

Reminiscent of the 90s in BR days when they often used to work in pairs on the sort of trunk Speedlink flows (and whatever their present day equivalent is known as) that are now handled by a single 92.

It's good to see from that photo that DBS are clearly keeping up the tradition of their predecessors EWS by using customer-specific liveried 90s on duties as far removed as possible from what they were re-liveried for, while throwing out anything else they have to hand on those workings!
