001 faffing about at Crewe this afternoon

First time I've had a good look at one up close and it's a fine looking locomotive. The central footstep also gives it face :D

Obviously not close up enough then, although still close enough to be the envy of all the desperate spotters who haven't seen one.....

I think what you’re referring to is the camera window for when it’s equipped with an auto-coupler.
Is there a plan to fit knuckles or Dellner's, or are they just tucked out of the way in the photos up thread? Or is it more an 'if' capability?

Not sure what the plans are, but others on here will know that I'm sure, but there's certainly none on it now.......here's a closer up pic of the front

Are we talking about the thing that looks like it's trying desperately to get someone to invoke Godwin's Law?
Isn't that something to do with Nazis?? I'm not sure what you mean if that's the case, but we mean the trapezoidal centrally placed 'thing' on the front that gives the loco's face a nose

I think the suggestion is that it looks more like a moustache
Oh I see......that never registered with me at all......
I doubt 'Adolfs' is going to work as a nickname for them.
Do they have a silly spotter name yet, incidentally....I'm proud to say I have absolutely no idea if they have or not

In a short q&a with a driver he said that they’d removed the auto-couplers but I don’t know where or when. In view of the Swiss heritage, I expect that Stadler/ROG have been thinking ahead.

Chaplin might be acceptable.

but it's not a toothbrush moustache...
Yes, exactly. If it had been a rectangular shape, I could perhaps see it as a certain gentleman's moustache. To me it's a nose.

So.....a Manilow, perhaps?

Edit: a quick Google of 'celebrities with prominent noses' comes up with some promising options!

For those that are interested in the function of the coupling camera, Bob Tiller’s videos of his Class 99s undergoing testing at Velim shows 001 coupling to 002:

[EDIT: amended with correct YouTube link, see timestamp 01:54]
