This quiz is number 81 so far...
Once again, CLOSED stations feature at the start and finish of this journey.
The journey starts at the CLOSED station of Hammerwich
It follows the line of the South Staffordshire Railway
It then follows the line of the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway
It then follows the line of the Cherwell Valley Line
It then follows the line of the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway
It then follows the line of the West Coastway line
It then follows the line of the Southsea Railway
The journey ends at the CLOSED station of East Southsea
The first closed station on this journey is Hammerwich

I'm puzzled
If going through Aberbargoed and Pengam, then we've missed Fleur de Lis Halt and Maesycwmmer before switching back to the Rhymney line in the Hengoed area
If not (ie we stick to the Rhymney all the way) then there's no closed stations between Groes Faen and Cefn Onn. Bargoed and Pengam (on that line) are open

I must confess that the design of that final part of that last leg was from compiled notes in my archives that have not seen the light of day since 1974. These notes are written in the form of a handwritten letter with attached sketches that was sent to me by an elderly Welsh historian whom I met in 1974 whilst on holiday in the Saundersfoot area.
After Pengam, there is a line leading off at Maesycwmmer junction and another line coming in from LLancaiach junction. You then go over the Hengoed viaduct and it looks like that there are then currently open stations now at Hengoed High Level, Ystrad Mynach, Llanbradech and Aber. There is a bifurcation at West Branch junction, then a currently open station of Caerphilly then the line passes through the Caerphilly tunnel, with Cefn Onn Halt being the next closed station.
I have had to see which stations south of Pengam are current in 2012. If you have any more definite information that is more correct than that which was sent to me in 1974, can you send me a PM on this matter, for as you know, we had never used the Rhymney Railway on this quiz in the previous 80 quizzes. I do so much enjoy the queries that this particular quiz brings to light, as it all helps with our understanding of past times on the railway system.

Today, I found that the elderly person who wrote to me in 1974 with details and sketch maps with regard to the Rhymney Railway, died in 1981, according to his son.
