In reply to the query raised about Defiance Platform, it was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1905 to serve naval personnel who were training at the nearby torpedo training school of HMS Defiance, which was moored nearby.

You are right in that aspiration, as it was indeed the final halt on the branch line, but prior to it was Ynysybwl (New Road) Halt.

Nantgarw (High Level) Halt was the last station on the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway.
The preamble to the journey said that the leg to follow it would be the PC&N Machen loop line.....via Waterloo Halt.

This station is correct as being the first closed station we would meet on the Brecon and Merthyr Junction Railway, but again, the line of the PC&N Machen loop line has been omitted. There are just three stations on that loop line, including the one of Waterloo Halt that is mentioned in the journey preamble.

So having passed through the open station of Caerphilly to access this loop line, the first of these three stations is....
