A semi-rural part of north-west England
We next move to England for the next journey.....

This is number 840 in the series so far.....

The journey starts at the closed station of Usworth
It follows the line of the NER Leamside Line
It then follows the line of the NER Durham to Bishop Auckland Line
It then follows the line of the Weardale Railway
It then follows the line of the Weardale Extension Railway
It then follows the line of the Stanhope and Tyne Railway
It then follows the line of the Derwent Valley Railway (County Durham)
It then follows the line of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway...via the North Wylam loop line
It then follows the line of the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway...note 1st and 2nd stations
It then follows the line of the Furness and Midland Joint Railway
It then follows the line of the "Little" North Western Railway
It then follows the line of the MR Skipton to Ilkley line
It then follows the line of the Otley and Ilkley Joint Railway
It then follows the line of the Leeds and Northallerton Railway
It then follows the line of the LNR Northallerton to Eaglescliffe Line
The journey ends at the closed station of Picton

The first closed station on this journey is Usworth

There seem to have been two stations here, both of which were named Howden and Beechburn at various times and even the Disused Stations website is vague about it. So I think we should pass on to:

Tow Law (1st station - 1847 to 1868)

Note: there have been two stations at Tow Law. The first was built by the Stockton & Darlington and moved when the Sunniside Incline was bypassed in 1868. However maps suggest that it was north of the junction between the original line and the deviation, so we would pass through it.
