Bombardier has its being reported won a contract to build and provide rolling stock for a large (60 mile) monorail in Egypt with the 70x4 car monorail trains to be built in derby between 2021 and 2024 on a new production line.

Its the first UK rolling stock export since the Gautrain.

Useful work for Derby, though rather going against how the factory has operated in recent years which has tended to be high volume orders of fairly standardised product

    280 carriages isn't exactly a Swiss narrow-gauge custom order.

True, but surely will take some time to get the facilities ready as it is still quite a different product to all the Electrostars/Adventras they've been turning out.

Speaking of which, I'm not so up to date on their order books, but will this affect other orders? Or mean a lot of capacity is being used, therefore they might not be so competitive in the UK rail market?

I assume it'll only take up a relatively small amount of the factory. After all Derby would have been hoping to be building the New Tube for London which they lost to Siemens, and that would have been alongside their Aventra work
