Posters on the wnxx forum seem to suggest the idea has been dropped by EMT.

It was a bonkers idea by EMT management, their planners knew it was mental, as did we. It's unlikely they could have been pathed anyway due to the longer dwells needed and general performance of the stock.

[sarcasm] Northern have agreed to lend them lots of cl142 to create 4 or 6 car trains for every Liverpool-Norwich service, any passenger choosing to make the complete journey by this method will be sectioned, once they have had the resulting back injuries treated.[/sarcasm]

overheard some staff talking on my train a few weeks ago saying that David Horne (a senior person in EMT) had canned the idea. It was going to be a DBSO+SO+SO+31 but Serco were apparently charging way over the odds

Its too tight around Stoke and Derby I think, as slam doors need a longer dwell, they would appear at either end too late.

So many issues are related to slam-door stock...

How much did BR save when the Mark 3s were originally ordered by specifiying slam-door stock rather than powered doors?

Well I do think that is a great shame it's not happening, but I can understand why. However I still think properly maintined slam door stock is massive, and perfectly safe before anyone starts :p Just wished that the norms actually thought about the station staff and shut the doors behind them! Oh well..

I agree that would not be worthwile, though having said that I would still not mind that over a 158 for a change. But overall whenever I use these trains they are not that busy (well off peak anyway).
