Crewe-Liverpool Fare Increase

I booked a return ticket today from Crewe to Liverpool Lime Street. I was shocked at the fare increase. An off-peak ticket which cost approximately £15 a few weeks ago is now about £24. That's an increase of about 40% How is that justified?

A day return is around £15, the period return is £24

Don't see any changes in the fares.

Are you sure you are comparing the same type of fare?

There is the Off-Peak Return which is £24.20

There is the Off-Peak Day Return which is £15.30 or £15.20 depending on routing restrictions:
