Do we have any HST running this weekend? Is it a strike weekend? Lost the plot
I think Saturday's CC RMT strike has been called off. According to a Facebook HST group only one HST will run on Saturday - 1V44 06:09 Leeds-Plymouth - with none at all on Sunday.

I am having possibly my last HST trip on my local line today, enjoying the traction of the four power cars currently in play 303, 304, 378 and 321. Tomorrow will be a day for watching from beside the tracks instead.

All is running relatively smoothly so far this afternoon. Very sad to see the HSTs go, as are apparently many of those on board. It was interesting to hear an announcement from the train manager informing all passengers of the significance of these last few days: 'Next time you're on this train it might be in a museum'!

Assuming it's running as planned - and assuming I can get a seat, what with all of the enthusiasts so far this month  - my last one will be 1V50 on Monday. It it doesn't run, my last was on the 12th. As much as I enjoyed them, their time has come and gone. That said, if their retention means I don't have to get the elbows out on the now four-car 1V48 I usually get, I'm all in favour...

Faults can often be cleared overnight on depot. There are now only 10 power cars in the XC active fleet: 43285/301 are stopped for de-branding, defect clearance and off leasing.

Thanks but I did realise that, just thought with 6 'spare' power cars on hand it might be less hassle to just use one of them.

Just travelled with 43321/78 New St. - Derby. After a 'late start waiting a crew member' they certainly went very well until we caught something up at Burton - pulled back a couple of minutes by some smart running (and smart station work at Tamworth, with a crowd alighting because the 170 service was behind instead of in front). It's always a very busy train but perhaps a Plymouth - Edinburgh/Glasgow service shouldn't be carrying loads of New St. - Tamworth commuters...

I took 1V50 from Newcastle to Sheffield yesterday. There were quite a few enthusiasts on board, and the crew was quite open for a chat about how much they enjoyed working on the HSTs.

I've not used them as I much as I could have in recent months (especially as I'm in the ideal place for a morning out evening back trip), but it was a fitting and enjoyable last trip, and even arrived in Sheffield a minute or two early.

Later in the evening I returned on a crush-loaded 1E64/1927 Birmingham New Street-Newcastle, such was the effect of the HST failing on 1E63...

43304 failed at NL, 1V44 not a HST.
Will be interesting to see whether it's replaced at Plymouth for a HST on 1S51. If not, then assume 1V50 could be a Voyager on Monday - unless there's already a set at Craigentinny.

I notice there's an ECS move from Laira to Neville Hill today, showing as 43184 and 43366.

I'm hoping the powercars that are en route to Neville Hill will go and replace the failed set and then continue on with 1S51 from Leeds. Either way I hope 1S51 is a HST!

I assume that the power cars are to replace the ones failed at Neville Hill and will work tomorrow's Leeds - Plymouth, but I'm applying logic to XC ...

Was hoping 1S51 was a HST from Plymouth so I could get one last trip on one.

I'd of thought 378 & 321 would work tomorrow's Leeds to Plymouth as they finish in Leeds tonight on 1E63

Sorry, you're right. Just seems a bit illogical to send two p.c.s to Leeds to take up the working from there rather than using them (with a spare set) all the way from Plymouth.

New St platform 7 around 16.00 - when a Voyager with 3 1/2 standard coaches turns up - could get tense. Yesterday afternoon the HST was FF&S!!!

Is there a pair of power cars and a rake left at Laira that could substitute on 1S51 now that 43184 and 43366 are gone?

Yeah this working has been in the system for a few days so it's unlikely to be in relation to the set failing, being realistic.

Related to the tour I suspect, spare power cars, especially given one is 43184.

A rake, maybe, a serviceable rake, unlikely!

I'm confused! So is the 16.27 Plymouth to Leeds not a HST set now due to the failure of that power car?

Is there anything to suggest that I am going to spend 3 figures on a rail ticket for Monday and find myself on Voyagers?

I'm paying a bit extra to go flexible instead of advance just in case anything changes with the planned diagram on Monday

That one's not booked to be a HST, the 1527 departure is.
Are you sure??
Page 53, number 1572 says the 16.27 is expected to be a HST and I was told by cross country that it is down to be HST subject to confirmation due to the failure the other day.

Real train times has it down as a HST too still (16.27)

16.27 is Monday as the train is diverted via Westbury. Today (Fri) it's 15:27 via the usual route.
