Good thinking, both - especially Mr. G. -- but alas, incorrect. "Answer station" is a "double-barrelled" ("A & B") name: second word could be heard -- rather than read -- as an adjective which doesn't actually exist, but might well have.

I could claim that the clue was deliberately ambiguous but I'd be lying. In fact you've outsmarted me by finding an alternative valid answer.
