I wonder if some of the engine sump is below floor level when installed in the loco?
Yes it is. Page 33 of the Class 60 locomotive book by Edward Gleed show images of bodyshell construction and one shows a very clear rectangular lower well area in the centre of the loco.

With the Mirrlees power unit being an inline rather than Vee form, it is taller so figures that it may need recessing in the floor.

A long time without any apparent progress with the DB 'for sale' lists or the Land Recovery 'for renovation' batch, there are some new photos on 'Rail Scene' and 'Class 60' facebook pages of the Land Recovery locos but they appear untouched since delivery in the summer, there are comments regarding the clearance of sidings on the opposite side to EMD Longport facility which 'may' have been purchased and cleared by Land Recovery

Despite a few rumours from a couple of months ago the DB withdrawn locos remain in store at Toton while GBRf 60014 remains stripped out at Longport, the only progress appears to be with DCR at Loughborough where 60099 is well into its reinstatement process reportedly having made an uncorroborated return for 'phase 2' after visiting the test facility while 60013 is a couple of months into its reinstatement

A so called report by the Daily Express, referring to the Land Recovery 60s at Radway Green, has the headline "Inside UK's abandoned train graveyard where locomotives left rusting for 35 years" always nice to know you can rely on the press to give an accurate account

An impressive feat for the Class 60s as according to that, they’ll have been left rusting before they were built

The article even contradicts the silly headline:

"The trains were bought by Land Recovery and transported to the quarry from Toton, Notts, last year."

(My bold)

In the interests of accuracy when did these first get listed as out of use / stored out of use at Toton by EWS / DBS?

Obv I'm sure this info is well known here on the forum if not in this thread!

Got a few for you, post #81 which was the DCR batch, post #186 which I think are the Land Recovery ones and post #309

Designed in the 1960s
I assume someone is taking massive liberties with the relationship between the APTs and the Pendolinos - although the APT-E was only built in the 70s, so even if they were directly related they'd still be partly wrong.

Another whopping bunch available for sale today, I make it 31, on the DB Disposal site

003/005/023/025/027/030/031/033/034/035/041/042/043/045/049/051/053/054/058/067/069/071/072/073/082/083/088/091/094/097/500

All at Toton barring 082 at Crewe, closing date 19th April

So to try to get an up to date situation

12 in January 2023 - 012/032/036/037/048/052/068/077/078/084/089/093 which are the Land Recovery batch, all at Toton ** Now stored at Radway Green **

16 in March 2024 - 001/007/010/015/019/020/039/040/044/059/063/065/066/079/092/100 buyer(s) unknown, all at Toton

4 - 006 @ Scrapped, 050/086 @ Kinsley, 081 @ LSL Margate

19 - 028/029/046/055 operational with DCR, 099 under repair, 008/009/013/022/038/057/061/064/070/075/080/090/098 stored, 060 spares donor

13 - 002/021/026/047/056/076/085/087/095/096 operational with GBRf, 014 @ Longport, 004 @ Toton & 018 @ Loughborough Brush all transferred to the GBSD storage pool

5 - 011/017/024/062/074 stored with DB

Thought I'd just bring this post from April 2024 back to life, sadly it shows what little progress has been made since then

Not one of the March or April offerings have been sold and remain at Toton other than the one at Crewe, none of the Land Recovery batch have been worked on and remain at Radway Green while DCR still have 60099 under repair at Loughborough, it has recently been joined by 60013, while 60057 is now at Boden Rail Colwick, the five stored by DB remain stored at this time despite rumours of possible reintroduction

Perhaps they thought that the Pendolinos looked like the older Blue Pullman, which were built in the same factory in Washwood Heath, Birmingham, by what became the same company - Metropolitan-Cammell, which was bought by Alstom?

Not a someone - the article(s) in question were written by an AI newswriter - but in any case it’s off-topic to Class 60s.

Thanks for the update and confirming that 013 is next in the queue for reinstatement to traffic by UKRL. Any information on why 057 is at Boden?

60013 started its rebuild during February, sadly no recent progress updates on it or 60099

60057 is reported to have been transferred to Colwick for parts recovery and another two are supposed to be joining it very shortly, an uncorroborated rumour I've seen is that maintenance for the DCR fleet has been taken over by Boden Rail which could explain the transfer to create a pool of handy parts if true

** Updated Thursday 22nd May **

DCR 60075 transferred by road from Loughborough to Boden Rail today
