My train this evening is cancelled due to crew shortage.

I am boarding at an unstaffed station, and have no other public transport means of leaving, meaning I will have to take the later train.

Normally, with delay repay I would submit a claim - but in this case I'd have to buy the ticket on the train, which will of course be the later one.

Can anyone please let me know what I do in this situation?

I'm claiming absolutely everything for anything that goes wrong now, since Abellio took over ScotRail I've noticed a significant reduction in the quality of service in my local area and I'm kind of trying to make a point with them...

Scotrail will know they cancelled the train.

Simply include a note with your claim explaining that you purchased your ticket on the train as there are no ticket issuing facilities at the station.

There shouldn't be a problem.

I've been in a similar situation to you on a few occasions when I've been waiting two hours at a local unstaffed station because the train was cancelled. I simply purchased the ticket from the guard on the next available service and then sent it off for compensation which was duly paid. As Hadders says, just let them know which train you were planning to catch.

Thanks for your help.

Incidentally my return train was also cancelled, so I'll add that on too!
