Can you even spend that - I thought all train tickets ended in a multiple of 5p?
Yes, you can. You use the voucher towards the value of the actual fare purchased and make up the remainder by other means. Whether it is worth bothering is a different matter. Can you even spend that - I thought all train tickets ended in a multiple of 5p?
What on earth fare has resulted in that? Some kind of £0.10 special with Railcard discount and a 30 minute delay?
Northern's policy is not to round up.Can you even spend that - I thought all train tickets ended in a multiple of 5p?
Northern did have 20p Advance fares recently. Some kind of £0.10 special with Railcard discount and a 30 minute delay?

I would, out of principle.Given that (afaik) Northern don't do automatic delay repay, would the OP care to comment on why they claimed a 3p refund?

Northern's 'Customer Experience Centre' have told me that automatic delay repay 'doesn't work' and to just submit a manual claim for any delays.Automatic Delay Repay could be problematic is a customer book a Northern Advance on the Northern site and is delayed but wants a free travel voucher. They may be refused on the basis they have already received automatic delay repay onto the card used to buy the ticket.

I'd hazard a guess at the entertainment value - the intent is there by virtue of it being shared online.
What was the value of the ticket you used to travel and what was the length of the delay? Is this the correct amount or have they made a mistake here? It looks like you've ha a 15-29 minute delay using one of their 10p Advances they did a sale for recently.
If it is the correct amount then I would seriously write back with a polite letter to FREEPOST NORTHERN RAILWAY enclosing the 3p rail travel voucher and ask them to issue a free travel voucher instead for use on their services (a single). Although if it was only a 15-29 minute delay then there is no entitlement to this. You might get some goodwill from Northern.
If not, use the voucher against a ticket at a Northern ticket office so they have the costs involved with processing it - which will be more then 3p.
It was a 10p single from Barrow to Bolton. It was delayed 30+ mins at Preston but sadly only 29 at Bolton. As my watch isn't too reliable I claimed for a 30 min delay with "Free Ticket", missed out on that.

Well I guess they are obliged to either pay or deny the claim. Denying it if the passenger then wants to make an issue of it would cost the company even more.It has cost more than 3p to print the letter and the voucher! What a waste of time and money.
I don't see any issue with Northern refusing to give out delay compensation to passengers who haven't paid a single penny towards their journey (as 50% of £0 is £0).Well, I have been delayed again between Bolton and Urmston by just over 30 min's and claiming "Free Tickets" as I usually do. Filled the webform in and I've had a reply from Northern.
It says I am not included within the rules of the Delay Repay scheme as I was using a "Multi Modal" ticket and they have refused my claim.
The ticket I used was my Greater Manchester Concessionary Pass. This makes me wonder what else I'm missing out on when travelling as a second class citizen.
