I've read about that, can't say I blame them either.



Just goes to show how well Welsh coal must've been thought of if the French were using it too.

It was the perfect fuel for the time , a Paris exhibition in 1935 displayed "Gwaun Cae Gurwen Luxury Coal"

However the Italians in the 19thC , not only fuelled their trains with best Welsh steam coal , but used finest Lucca Olive Oil for lubrication. Foodies today would be licking if off the valve gear.
