Good morning,

Are there any direct rail services between London and Shrewsbury, I know there used to be the great service that ran for a short time from Marylebone, but I thought that Avanti had bought in some direct trains, perhaps as extensions to the B'rum/Wolves or Chester services. ?

I am looking to travel in August. I know those dates would probably not be in the systems yet, I did a dummy enquiry for June, but all services seemed to involve a change of trains in Brum, Intl, New St or Wolves.

Thanks Steve.

There is but only one service a day at the moment, out of Euston it’s the 18:23 departure, as you say it’s an extension of a Wolverhampton service. Going from Shrewsbury towards London it’s the 06:39 during the week, 08:19 on Saturday or 15:24 on a Sunday.

In BR intercity days, a Euston/Birmingham/Wolverhampton (EBW) set was dragged to Shrewsbury from Wolverhampton by a Cl 47. Think there were 3 or 4 a day. I dont think the electric loco went to Shrewsbury, but I think DVT's were. On Video125's movie, 'One Day in Severn', a EBW set visits Shrewsbury station.

Must be quicker via Crewe on HS2!
It's already usually quicker via Crewe today. Particularly because of the significant reduction in Shrewsbury-Wolverhampton/Birmingham and Wolverhampton/Birmingham-Euston services compared to pre-pandemic, whereas Shrewsbury-Crewe is pretty much as per pre-pandemic and Crewe-Euston is just missing the hourly Chester/Holyhead service.
