I've just found an email from Virgin East Coast with a discount code for 30% off my next booking.
It's a simple sorry from us. Disrupted journeys aren't fun for anyone and we'd like to offer you 30% off your next trip so we can show you how we do it properly.
Sounds good, only I'm curious as to why they sent me it! My most recent journey was the 09:00 Kings Cross-Newcastle on Friday 9th September which was not disrupted. I held a ticket for the 10:26 from Newcastle to London on Monday 12th, but my plans changed and I did not use it. I've searched around but can't find any information that this train (the 10:26) was disrupted.

Is it valid with any Railcard discount? If not, it is possible that it is just a sales gimmick.

There was major disruption over several days last week, from Tuesday 6th to Sunday 11th, and the offer is a general offer to those with bookings over those dates made through VTEC. As you did not experience and delays, I trust you will decline the opportunity to benefit from an apology and a discount. :D

Thanks. I read about the Retford problems but wasn't affected by them, and I'd already destroyed the unused ticket, so even if I was that way inclined I wouldn't have been in a position to claim any delay repay due for the journey I didn't take.
