Well well well, it appears that the people at the DfT/Network Rail/TfN are as enthusiastic about the idea of HS3 as we are. It appears that the idea of a captive link into Liverpool is now genuinely on the table, and that it is beyond all doubt that Scotland will be served via the western arm. An eastern arm extension doesn't appear to factor in at this point in time, which does not surprise me given the high speeds already possible.

A combination of Options 1, 2 and 4 has always been my thoughts on what HS3 should consist of.

Looks like a good starting point for a proper study.

Still think Manc Airport to Leeds should be on that.
Although it would clutter it up rather badly.
Prefer options 1, 2/7 hybrid and 4 myself.

This map just shows to me that they really do need to sort out/change the location of Leeds HS2 station and line so it connects better with the existing network.
