I'd recommend Edinburgh to Aberdeen route, found here. Very good quality and, from my own personal experience, very realistic as well!

NWM is by far the best I've tried. Very realistic and extensive. You will not get bored of NWM imo with alot of routes varying from branch lines, mainlines and commuter routes, plus freight. Alot of diagrams and traction too.
Its a shame I'm now on vista and can't play BVE:-x
X city south, although is realistic, it is just one route, which i tired of very quickly.

NWM is class.

Would be nice if people could be a bit more helpful, "openbve", "Nwm" and "Birmigham cross city south" aren't much use to someone who is new to BVE.

I would be interested in quality routes from anywhere in the world.

NVM is great, but, i'm getting bored of it now, i don't think we need little extensions to Salford, Radley etc. I think a completley diffrent route would be great, not that theres anything wrong with NVM.... hope you get what i mean

I agree with all the routes mentioned above.

Also the Tseung Kwan O Line(Down) is a great route. And I like the way the cab lights up on the m-train_08CT when the reverser is moved.

You can play it in Vista mate, just follow the workaround that is stickied at the top of the BVE section.

seconded! as good as it is, and as much as i understand routes take dedication, hard work, and lots of time to be created - bve really could do with alot more routes to raise its profile and keep its popularity.

We know that the BVE needs new routes to raise its popularity, however when we use the word 'coding' it makes it sound harder than it seems, that might put developers off, but i understand fully what you are saying, but one thing that may put people off is when someone makes a route and then gets slagged off becuase they think its rubbish in thier oppinion, but dont worry more routes are coming your way.

i cannot get any of the BVE 4 london underground routes to work well in open bve...the tunnel walls are all messed up :s

The Northern line will, if you download the OpenBVE version.

Sadly, this amazing OpenBVE has made a huge number of the best routes that are no longer being updated incompatable.

The first priority should have been to make everything for BVE4/2 work in Open, this was not the case and the coder of Open went on leaving huge problems on alot of routes. I mean, fair enough about transparent colours, but the cylinder comand not working for tube stations, come on! This is why I would not make things for OpenBVE even if it did work above 3FPS on my system!!!

I find that michelle is quite ignorant with certain things. Especially when there was a thread she made on her forum asking about automatic door opening and closing when stopping at stations.

She said 'I don't like user customisation' or something like that.

What a nasty insult to the person who has single-handedly secured the future of BVE and who always listens to feedback.

Have you considered it may have been the way you asked her?

I hope you hang your head in shame!

Not an insult at all. I was simply stating that she should consider what other people would like in her program rather than blindly ignoring it.

Plus it wasn't me who asked, it was someone else.

Actually, what Michelle said wasn't 'I don't like user customisation', it was 'I don't like user-specific settings here.' In context, it meant that the choice of automatic or manual door operation should be left to the route/train developer, not the user. You can of course disagree with that, but I don't think making that statement amounts to ignoring what other people want. On that subject, I should point out that quite a few features suggested by other people were implemented in openBVE.

As far as backwards compatibility to BVE2 and BVE4 goes, I understand that it's disappointing when your favorite route does not run properly in openBVE. However, it should also be said that to have achieved the current level of compatibility, despite various ambiguities in BVE's syntax, a number of bugs in BVE2 and BVE4, and a severe lack of documentation, is nothing short of remarkable.

As for the cylinder command, it's worth noting that BVE usually renders a cylinder with a cap on top and bottom. Several developers of London Underground routes took advantage of a bug in BVE, using code that rendered the top and bottom transparent and thus allowed the construction of a tunnel from cylinders. This didn't work for certain graphics cards even in BVE, which is why there was a patch for users with those cards available for the Northern Line, among others. OpenBVE always renders the cylinders correctly, and that's why the tunnels seem to have a black wall in them every 25 meters.

It shouldn't be about what she likes. People should have the option for this sort of thing.

NWM works with openBVE. There is a download from the bve4.net site for OpenBVE files. its the same as playing on BVE4, just more compatible with vista. And you can look outside on ur train :)

Also i could get all of the London Underground routes to work on OpenBVE its just getting the traction. When using an BVE4 cab on OpenBVE it is really zoomed in and you cannot zoom out so you cant see all the dials. There needs to be more OpenBVE LU stock.

You say that before BVE5 gets out of BETA?

If BVE5 can run BVE4 routes once it is finished, I'll be developing for that! If not, BVE4 all the way....

I will add, if my computer will start running OpenBVE at more than 3FPS I would start developing for that... I have re-installed graphics drivers, installed an alternative to OpenGL, and tried pretty much everything me and others can think of to get it working. Unfortunately, this very brilliant program is not so brilliant!

Oi vay - I thought she was the developer here? It's her programme after all. Besides, I have to disagree with you and agree with Reschanger that the optimal settings for route/train are for the developer to decide.

Seeing as you are such an upstanding member of the community James, and clearly a pillar of confidence and admiration for all wannabe developers and alike, surely you of all people can understand the difficulty of having a developer so disconnected from the community which he helped to create. We waited years to hear from Mackoy, and Michelle (I feel, as do a lot of the rest of BVE folk) did the right thing in securing a future that we knew would be happening.

Admittedly, BVE5 looks very promising indeed, but I would save your disparaging comments for when it released properly.
