The Channel 5 one was much better. Showed how problems were solved.
Also showed RPO operations which was interesting.

Have just watched the second episode on Sky 2 tonight.

It was a little better than the first one , however they interviewed no passengers with regard to what they thought of the EC Breakfast or other meals in 1st Class.

I hope this will happen in future episodes and perhaps mention the lack of BP

Does anyone else have memories of East Coast working to stations like Doncaster, Peterborough or Edinburgh?

Or am I going mad.

Because "nearly 1000 miles of track" is a lot of track to fit between Newcastle and York....

They've filmed at King's Cross for a bit it seems. Even if, so far, it's mostly been stock footage to show a train having either ended there, or started there.

If you look at the side of the train and EC's own press photos, it would seem there's a pretty limited number of 'characters' so I have a feeling we'll be seeing the same people throughout the series, as against lots of new people working elsewhere.

Never mind them, we want Falkirk Grahamson featured as well :p

I thought that I have seen East Coast trains operating through Retford recently. Looks like I'm going mad as well.

Member of staff at York notices young man being sick. Seems to assume he's drunk. Had she checked to ensure he wasn't ill? Duty of care?

Anyone notice Daz at Newcastle watching football on a less than legal streaming site in the East Coast office. Naughty!

Just watching episode 2 now:

1) Why do they state that signals are much more complex than traffic lights, and then all they say about them are 'red means danger, then yellow, then green'. Not even mentioning the platform indicators etc.?

2) Not impressed at all about them playing Robin Thicke in the background to the team building exercise. Sigh...

The Match Day one at least had a theme (Ep3 yesterday), but did it really need to be an hour (or 28 seconds if you take out the padding, cuts, ads and intros!) to cover a few trains going north and some south, and to spend ages on policing dry trains?

I also thought that the lady that disregarded the man being sick and seemed confused about seeing the blood (then when hearing a police officer telling the injured man to put pressure on the wound simply repeated the exact same thing, presumably to sound knowledgeable) was a bit worrying as in she appeared, on camera at least, to be very unprofessional.

And continuing the feel of it being like one big glorified ad, the bit with the two people moving to the quiet coach sounded like a plug when they said they didn't even know there was a quiet carriage and how impressed they were with the service - as if they'd been told what to say.

Alas, because it's no longer being uploaded to YouTube I can't watch this riveting program. I'm desperate to know though from those who've watched episode 3: did the trainee train dispatcher ever get that stone out of his shoe?

I think one of the later episodes is dedicated to his shoe and all the bits of platform he's walked up and down.

I actually hope it will be on the 24th December and be an extended Christmas special.

I'm glad they stopped giving more airtime to the camp chef.

Up till now it's mainly been Newcastle and York, poor.

Not over keen on Victor Meldrews's voice over.

FGW was a million times better.

All in all, a disappointment so far and can't see that it will get any better. Still, it beat watching Arsenal hands down last night!!

I've not watched it yet- my Uncle has recorded it for me so am waiting to see it (I haven't got Sky either, so that's my work around :D).

I know! I've not been able to sleep worrying about him.

"Dispatcher Liam's first service is a train bound for London, which carries up to four hundred passengers"

Then they show him standing on a near empty platform

"Dan is desperate to succeed, a pass, and he'll be given his own train"

???? how is that even close to reality???

Hehe you can tell people have had enough of this programme now!

Just watching the latest one, little bit of focus on the driver, but not really much detail, and still too much annoying music!|

Correct me if i'm wrong, but they've now started taking the mick out of their own programme?

It appears so! Perhaps they have realized that it was not one of the best things they have ever made. :D

To be fair they're a train operating company, not a TV production company. Kudos to them for opening up their company and allowing a TV crew in, plenty of companies out there that would shoot down the idea. I'd blame the TV production company responsible for this. They're the people supposed to be skilled in producing good TV. :p

There was more detail in the fine art of driving the refreshments trolley up and down the train. Thats obviously a more skilled and important job than driving the actual train

This is very true and it needs a lot of physical effort.

With regard to the train driver clips, there were very few shots of the locomotive speedometer. Is this perhaps because of recent events in which speed was a factor or not to 'glorify' speed in some way ? 125 mph is of course nothing special in terms of speeds these days but it's far faster than a coach or car can do legally :)

I have watched the latest episode. I was a bit disappointed that when dealing with the guy who claimed the ticket machine had swallowed his money nobody appeared to consider requesting the BTP to have a chat with him, I'm sure there would have been some around at King's Cross. Looked like a pretty clear-cut case of fraud to me.

I actually thought that this was staged. The guy moaning seemed rather fake (like a normally smart actor trying to act a bit like a chav) in terms of what he was saying, and given most of this series so far seems like some sort of 'look how good East Coast is' advertisement, my cynicism had me thinking this was set up for EC to suggest that trying it on won't work because they can easily check.

I mean has there been anything negative yet? The only time there's been disruption (shown with footage from what is obviously a different day), EC staff have always looked like they've got everything in control despite battling the odds (i.e. problems outside of their control).

I'm sure I'm totally wrong and everything is totally honest and above board, but I'd like to see at least some sign of them getting things wrong - rather than mistakenly taking orders for fish instead of grill or whatever the 'hilarious' mistake was in the first episode.

I've got to admit that thought did cross my mind. Was also a little dissapointed that we didn't get an update on Liam's training this week. :p
