I’m contemplating a trip to the EKR on Monday 21 April.

I understand from Instagram that trains will be running but the Railways website doesn’t appear to have any timetable information with some direction to Facebook (which I don’t have access to).

Is anyone able to assist with the timings please?

The train departure times are on the website under "Opening Times".

On Monday 21st will be a Easter Scavenger Hunt. I suspect a lot of family's will be there.

Does it still have that blue thumper ?
yes they still do, there is an appeal to overhaul it. https://www.facebook.com/donate/429322833137095/27181151971500708 (just realized that appeal has ended i would contact them via the website and they can advise further https://eastkentrailway.co.uk/donate/)

What's the usual motive power on the East Kent?
Between Pacer 142036, 73130 and the Gatwick Express set with GLV, some times the 4cor carriage. According to the EKR facebook page is should be the Pacer 142036

Not too fussed about the families but the pacer might put me off.

Completely appreciate that but just not for me.
You could do a fair bit at Shepherdswell as there are multiple other attractions here, including the miniature railway. If you really can't stand the pacer Eythorne is 2.4 miles away, which can be walked.

As it happens I'm currently planning to be there that day, but I'll be with a family of 4 where the two parents are work friends of mine.

Understood, I think I’ll play it by ear and make a decision on the day.

The East Kent railway to me is one of those lines that, if it adopted a Mid Suffolk light railway model. (Light standard gauge railway - pre grouping coaches and industrial steam locos) It would be a really nice little railway. It doesn't have to be Bluebell levels, just some small 4 or 6 wheel pre-grouping coaches, and an austerity Hunslet would go a long way for the line.

It might be my steam bias talking but it's probably the one railway in Kent I haven't really gotten round to visiting and if I'm going to East Kent to visit a heritage railway i'd rather have another go along the RHDR than visit a pacer but that's just my preference to be honest.

It was a pleasant trip out in the end, just a shame the 73 wasn’t working.

It wasn’t that busy to be honest.

Would recommend the food in the cafe though, was very fresh

The yellow/primer diesel is an unusual beast, especially the cab. Is anything more known about it?

Its a ex NS shunter 331 that was originally from Brett Aggregates at Cliffe. There was a article in the railway magazine back in 2022. There a picture of it in NS on another forum

The class 73 is operational. I will post when it is next running.
