Hello.

Please see the attached screenshot.

This comes up whenever I start iTunes, and a similar one for QuickTime as well. And neither programme will start. I recently upgraded to the latest version of both applications with the Apple Software Update tool.

Does anyone know whats gone wrong, and how I can fix it?

Looks to me like you've got a corrupt DLL -

Best to find the errored DLL and replace it. Usually works when you uninstall and reinstall the program

I would try and reinstall iTunes first - easiest thing to do, don't uninstall it, just reinstall the version you've got installed and all *should* be ok.

Looks like a MS Windows system, so, the file QTCF.dll should be in your Windows/system directory.
It may not be "corrupt" but possibly the wrong version. Unfortunately, its not possible to be sure that its the named file that is corrupt, or is the wrong version; it could be the module that is calling it (ie the part of the application that needs to use that .dll file ) is incorrect or incompatible. You don't tell us whether it has ever worked since you "upgraded" but if it hasn't then its likely that there is an incompatibility with your OS or file corruption.

This is a QuickTime application, which ITunes uses.

But without doing lots of analysis, its going to be easier to re-instal the whole application. Just make sure its the correct version for your system (which OS and 32 or 64 bits).
If you can, uninstal ITunes AND Quicktime first (from Control Panel) then download the correct version of ITunes and re-instal both.

Good question. I don't know how familiar you are with working on PCs but don't hesitate to tell me if I'm being patronising or too techie.

Firstly, find where (which folder and which drive) you store your mp3 files, physically - lets call it your library. If you've also created any playlists that relate to them, then locate them too. You won't need to take back up copies of the mp3 music files (tho that's a pretty good thing to do from time to time anyway) but I would recomend taking a copy of your playlists into another folder/another computer/memory stick. Also save anything else you might have created in there such as notes to yourself about stuff you've thought, music images, lyrics or whatever.

Then do the un-instal and re-instal.

Check that both QuickTime and ITunes works with any tune - any mp3 file from anywhere.
That lets us know we've fixed the problem!
Only if that's okay, then start up ITunes and get into setting up your preferences and options, which range from how things appear on screen to what language you use and more. Find where you have to specify where your music libary is stored and a) make it point to your library (you noted that folder, above), then b) get the application (ITunes) to search for content and re-build your library index. Lastly. c) copy back your saved playlists.

If you need more assistance then your going to have to supply a LOT more nfo - such as your OS, and directory structure, applications associated with sound devices and music file-formats, and upgrage history. I may not be able to help

Glad you got it working again - that was a neat idea on the thread flymo posted. I wonder if that was a older version of QTCF.dll (which Windows was loading in preference to the newer one).
