Are there any signs of unique damage from sitting out for so long?
It looks exactly the same as the other sets. It was maintained on the exam cycle and just before it went from Crewe to Canton had a full steam clean of the carpets and interior. The only Real sign of its stint out is the stickers on the insides of the exterior doors are rather faded/washed out due to constant condensation with the single glazed windows in there but that's rather picky!! Don't forget the TO vehicles in HD01 and 03 have been out of service even longer (since the TOD vehicle was swapped in) and the ones for HD04-07 even longer still having not been used at all in service since their refurb so would last have seen passengers back in their East Coast days.

Interesting. Good to hear, I’ll have to see it.

Is there any idea of if 1W55 will be a Mk4 set tomorrow?
As it stands now no it won't be unfortunately.

Been some delays with getting HD04 and HD06 back out hence the set shortage tomorrow.

All being well HD02, HD03 and HD07 (as long as its test run now is successful) will be out tomorrow and Wednesday with HD06 re-entering service on Thursday putting it back to 4 rakes.

Then HD02, HD03, HD04 (on another test for 67014), HD06 and HD07 should be out on Wednesday, all bar 04 in service.
Ah alright, do you know which diagrams they are doing tomorrow?

The other 3 so one on 5:30 Holyhead to Cardiff, 10:52 to Manchester, 14:30 Cardiff, 18:55 to Manchester

One on 6:27 Manchester to Cardiff, 12:49 to Manchester, 16:30 to Swansea

One on 4:35 Cardiff to Manchester, 8:30 to Cardiff, 17:14 to Holyhead.

The Manchester start is HD07 so dependant on it making it back from its test run successfully

Just a FYI, There may well be some disruption to the Crewe start sets (and other units not just mk4s) in the morning so best to check before going out for them. Depot incident at Crewe which has blocked the fuelling road, already some cancellations early morning but guess it depends on where on the depot the units are!

67022 + HD07 are indeed allocated to the 06:27 Manchester - Cardiff, 12:49 Cardiff - Manchester & 16:30 Manchester - Swansea in the morning so as long as it can get off the depot in the morning it should see the return of HD07.

Planning on seeing both HD07 and HD03 when they both arrive into Cardiff in about an hour, especially now that HD07 is the first 5 car black set in passenger service

Good to see an extra one especially the first black 5 car set.

Formingn the 4th set, HD05 has been delayed slightly while HD07 was finished but the DVT has now been removed and the extra car will now be inserted hopefully today. Will mean then that theres more 5 car sets (HD01/03/05/07) than 4 cars (HD02/04/06)

Thank you. HD03 still seems to be running fine, so I think I’ll be alright.

How many left to be made into 5 cars? Assuming all of them will be?

The 3 even numbers HD02/04 and 06 are still 4 cars. All will be done, hopefully by late mid-late March there won't be any 4 cars left.

Should be a welcome capacity boost. I wonder why they weren't 5 carriages from the start. Easier to start them as 4 carriages maybe?

Looking like a last minute swap on 1W96 tonight, HD02 hasn’t made it ofoffepot
Sudden issues with the cab instruments in the 67 as it was about to leave. That loco+set in particular is plagued by issues at the moment, earlier in the day it had brake issues heading north and door issues heading south.

But there is the proverbial HD08 too, which currently doesn't exist but will theoretically be another 5 car.
HD08 technically exists but is part In Landore and part in Bristol at the moment. The future of those coaches depends on their condition once they're looked at more thoroughly after several years stored in the open and being robbed at Landore.
If its salvageable then it would have some mods, upgrades and overhaul done prior to being rolled out on the other sets but time will tell on that one.

Evening Holyhead should be 67015+HD03

67008+HD02 should also come out to replace 197115 on 1W65.

Tomorrow should be back to 4 with HD02/03/06 and 07 then Friday should then be 5 available with HD02/03/04/06/07 available plus a 6th set HD01 on an ecs move to Cardiff.

008 + HD02 now showing as coming out to replace the pair of 153s on 1W23 16:49 to Manchester. Still gets it to Crewe tonight and that’s a much better substitute!

Makes sense to be fair, keeps thebl 153s at Canton as an added bonus.

Thanks, does anyone know if the 4.54 off Crewe normally has catering?

I had planned to take a 158 to Bridgend, but a delayed red 5-MK4 set showed up just now and it had a few tables free, so I got on.

It is absolutely spotless in carriage 12324. Gleaming. Do you know what? I actually far, far prefer a red set to the Grand Central ones when they’re this clean. They’ve never been this clean before but this is really lovely. A clean Red MK4 set is now my preferred TfW train to travel long distances on, especially as the fifth carriage has clearly done a fair bit to even out the loads.

Its a shame I’m not taking it to Swansea.

The “standard” signs on the door are the Virgin Neo Sans ones too, rather than the ugly Welsh government font billingual ones, which is good to see.
