Now I am fairly new to playing RW, but am getting a bit better at it, keeping to speed limits, and getting the whole train on the platform etc, but out of the 3 (easy) scenarios on the Portsmouth line expansion, I have failed all three, even though I have finished them and done what I was supposed to do. Just earlier I did the 'Hightail to the Harbour' scenario and stopped at all the stations but the debriefing said I stopped at 0 of 8! I was running late, but in the bit that said all trains late there was a 0 next to it! I should have at least been credited with one station, how could I have finished the thing without terminating at Portsmouth harbour?

I enjoy the game, but it does frustrate me at times; I was replaying the HST scenario 'Chasing Yellows' a few days ago, and whilst attempting to align the train to Twyford platform (at 1mph) the train derailed and it was game over!

Can't really explain the portsmouth one. (did you open the doors?) On chasing yellows the exact same thing happened to me once but don't know what caused it. Sorry I could'nt be of more help.

    Hi JoeM

The problem you are having on the Portsmouth Direct line is being caused by late running - if you are late arriving at a station (I think it is classed as on time as long as the minute hasn't rolled over fom the booked time) it classes it as a failed station call - this is what I can tell anyway. I agree it is rather annoying as it is - here's hoping they may change it.

As for the "All trains late" you mentioned, IIRC, this is actually "AI trains late" and may be the source of confusion there - I have not once caused an AI train to be late!

As for the Chasing Yellows scenario, I cannot remember whether I have yet played it but there are odd places where the physics is a bit mucked up and you derail for no apparent reason. Best bet (especially since there are two of you that say you've had the same issue) would be report it to RW - they do a fair number of updates (I saw they posted on Facebook in the last day or so saying they were releasing a few more patches to fix various issues)

Oh, also, how do you find the Class 450? I struggle to get it above 70-75mph unless going down a nice downward slope and find the acceleration is pretty bad. I'm not sure if it is a bug or not (either way, not had chance to play it much recently so don;t want to report it if it is something that is now sorted)

Thanks for the replies; I guess it must be due to lateness, but in answer to the question about the 450, I do find its acceleration to be a bit sluggish, hence why I can't keep it to time. The only time I got it to near 90mph was down a gradient, but then I hit a 70mph limit and had to slow down anyway. I suppose more practice is needed, but with all the yellow signals on that particular scenario, I don't know how to keep to the timetable. Bearing this in mind, I completed the Oxford-Reading trip with the 166, and arrived 8 mins late, with the rear coach not even on the platform (I think it actually blocked the main line) and that counted as a pass!
Having looked at various clips of the real 450s, they seem to accelerate really well from a stop, so perhaps there is an issue with it on the game.

It is almost impossible to keep to time on the reading one. Before the update to ts2012 the 450 was much more realistic however afterwards I found it impossible to keep to time on any pdl scenario. The top speed of a real 450 is 100 not 90.

I believe they did an update on the setup of emus and power distribution, and in the process may have broken the 450 and the scenario. It certainly accelerates rather less quickly than it did. It used to be a rocketship in acceleration before (which I gather was also supposed to be unrealistic)

Id avocate anyone suffering from this to send a bug report to RSC.

Just to update - I tried the late night scenario again (think its called end of days?) where you have to drive the 450 through the washer, and this time I managed to pass it - however, tried the saturday shunt again and despite doing everything as instructed, failed it again...I think it said something about timeliness but it was the stupid signallers fault for making me wait on the wrong platform for ages then putting me on the right one!

If you were waiting at a red signal, did you press TAB to speak to the signalman and see if you could pass the red signal?

I didn't, actually - and was sitting waiting for a red for quite a bit...though there seemed to be a lot of trains in and out while I was sat there. I'll give it another try.

I'm just doing the Working to Woking scenario, and having left Rowlands Castle with 12 cars, the train won't even get up to 60mph going up the bank to Buriton Tunnel. It's losing speed as a matter of fact. I'm sure that a 450 shouldn't do that! :|

Yeah - I find the 450 VERY sluggish. I'm not a huge expert on 450's but I'm sure that even third rail units shoukd have a bit more oomph!

I have had a draft email ready to remind me to email Rail Simulator since 4th December but still haven't had chance. May be best if we all email about these and hopefully they will get the power curve sorted out on it :)

P.S. Welcome to the forums :)

do you think its because we are supposed to use the cab controls rather than the interface? The Class 86 is useless with that, but runs like a dream with the tap controller?

Wish there were more scenarios for the 455 - thats a beauty to drive! (he says cos he passed all the scenarios!)

Would be worth trying it to see. I usually use the interface/keyboard.

It has some strange quirks does the Class 450 - had it before where after reloading a scenario the controls are totally unresponsive and the only thing to do is Backspace to perform an EBA and then switch cabs and you have control back...sodding useless for the timed runs though!

As for exhausting the 455 scenarios, have you tried UKTS to see if anyone has created any that fit the add-ons you have?

I just tried the 450 with the cab controls - didn't make any difference, speed gradually crawled up to about 65mph, as when using the interface.

I've never played MSTS, would the 455 work on it?

I will get round to emailing them eventually, may also post something on their Facebook page.

MSTS is a completely different (and also pretty much obsolete) product so RW add-ons wouldn't work with it

Lots of the EMU's are currently broken since the RW3 upgrade.

I haven't actually tried the 450 since the update or the 390 but both are broken for performance though.

They are due to be updated but when is anyones guess really.
