I never said that racism did not exist in the UK. I'm sure there are many people who wish that the UK was all white. What I'm saying is that racism is less prevalent in the UK than the US. The US has the highest incarceration rate in the entire world. Blacks make up most of the prison population. Blacks live in poor sections of the country. In New York City, most of the bums on the subway are black. Across the pond, I see interracial couples and blacks heading to corporate jobs. Seal married Heidi Klum (I know they split up, but it had nothing to do with race). In fact, the smartest family in the UK is black.
An interesting comparison indeed, however
crucially the demographics of the UK and the USA are very different. Firstly, I have never cared what colour someone is, to me that is irrelevant, as everyone is an individual. At the end of the day we're all related as we're human!
However, these figures may shed some light on the race issue in the UK. The dominant group by far after whites in the UK are people of South Asian decent - India, Bangladesh, Pakistan e.t.c (making up over 6% of the population). In some areas of London, this reaches up to and over 30%. This group is spread out all over the country (including small towns where mills and traditional work industries have closed down thus leading to poverty e.t.c), and as a result is often the target of racism from despicable groups like the English Defense League when it tends to happen. This group is often a victim as it has been noted that they have sometimes chosen to live 'together' in somewhat segregated communities and have a kept a way of life from their past - particularly the older generation who came many years ago. This has slowly filtered away as later generations have been born and brought up in Britain, but it's still deemed to be a problem by the Government.
The Black population is around 2% and most people of this heritage are concentrated in large cities like London, Manchester and Liverpool. In fact, there are seemingly very few Black people in many regional communities. Most Black people in the cities are very well integrated and are truly British in the way they run their lives.
The UK doesn't really have very large Hispanic or Far Eastern communities to speak of (especially outside London) like the USA, but Eastern Europeans are a growing group.
I hope this has made things a bit clearer.
