This has been ongoing most of the morning... what's happened?

According to NRE:
An operating incident has occurred near Farringdon.

Becauuse of this, trains between London St Pancras and Farringdon are suspended.

A couple of trains have lost some of their shoes thought to be caused by incorrectly placed rails during a rail drop last night.

Indeed. On that note, the weekend closures will go on until May 2012 and there will be a through service during the next three Sundays (besides today).

In addition, the tube ticket hall at Farringdon will close for about 2 months on 10 December and the other two (Turnmill Street/Integrated) will be open that same day.
