I'll post mine later when I've had a think about it but I thought I should follow up on the Scottish and Welsh threads at some point.

Which is your favourite out of the 1980 English stations?

Crewe! Just in case I need a reason for this it isn't for any aesthetic reasons, it just reminds me of my younger days when for not much money at all I could get a train to a busy major junction with all kinds going on and you could see almost right in to the diesel depot. There are of course much more beautiful stations. Ha ha.

Surprisingly, I vote for Huddersfield.

My favourite station is Berney Arms. It seems so lonely yet it receives a large number of visits just because of where it is.

Depends how you define favorite. Is it best looking, best architecture, best modern design, place you spend most time etc.

My favorites are Darlington, Newcastle, York and Kings Cross amongst others - there are so many great ones!

From the inside or the outside?

Both! There's no need for me to wax lyrical about the outside, but recent(ish) works have improved the inside too. It's not perfect of course (The roof ought to be re-glazed once the wires are up, the new staircase on P1 could do with being wider, and those who don't keep left on it should be shot on sight!), but overall it is a great source of civic pride for myself and other Huddersfielders.

I also rather like the buffet on the island for it's old-school charm, and was very pleased when at the start of their franchise Firstgroup/Keolis failed in their attempts to evict the proprietors to replace it with no doubt an overpriced identikit Pumpkin/Upper Crust-type outlet!

P.S. I wonder how long it'll take for someone to nominate Knighton?

Preaching to the converted here - I was born about 300 metres from it and lived in Linthwaite for the first quarter century of my life. The interior falls a little short in terms of great facilities, even now, but it's taken a major leap forward since the work.

Grange-Over-Sands is one I really like and I would say is my favourite.

Bishopstone by quite a way. Sadly now a forlorn shadow of its former self, but at least it survives.

York without doubt, although will always have a soft spot for Ely as that's where I grew up and first started watching the trains at the age of 6.

Always enjoy a visit to Crewe for variety, and admire the architecture of Glasgow Central on every visit. Just a shame about the wretched ticket gates that have ruined the atmosphere, appearance and passenger flow at so many of our great railway stations.

Yes it's a s***hole, but in summer the platform is green with grass and its the best spot to appreciate just what a busy stretch of Railway this is. Only been there once mind.

Barnetby. Its in the countryside, no mither from passengers, loads of semaphore signals, oh yes I almost forgot to mention the small matter of it only being the busiest station for freight in the UK.

I'll go for Doleham only 50 miles from central london but so isolated. Ive still not seen a passenger alight or board here since the Thumper Days

Shepreth - it still has a real country station halt atmosphere, with a level crossing at one end. Also I belong to the local rail users group and feel I have some responsibility for its condition.

Mine is..... St Ives (Cornwall). Nothing better than the view from the platform on a clear, warm Summer's day.

At the busy end of the scale, I'll go for Stratford. Obviously not everyone's no.1 choice, but having seen the area change from the days of Stratford TMD to what is there now I find it fascinating.

If you want somewhere more peaceful, then the tea rooms at Wymondham. Could stay in there all day.

Great Malvern, Avoncliff and Grange over Sands all for different reasons.
