freshers week is the week they should be pushing it the most to get it known to the students.

Honestly, nothing much ever changes in Aberdeen with the 20 and the endless chopping and changing.I'll give this service a few months before it simply dies away like all the other incarnations of the 20 throughout the years. Unless, of course, the plan is to use the 20's capacity to make up for running single deckers on the 1/2 in the evening.

It’s been like that for months, particularly on Fri/Sat nights when the universities weren’t in session.

The only reason they are doing this is because they won’t ever justify passenger comfort at the cost of fuel economy at night for the larger buses.

If you take a 15-17t bus off the road and operate a 8t bus you're going to save fuel.
It's been like this for the best part of a decade now ever since they stopped using artics on the 1/2 in the evening. Sundays were the same although they do at least tend to use the Hydroliners now.
Hopefully they can sort out this ‘night 20’ to make it successful as I feel it could be however having a look at the app the 00:00 departure from Hillhead is showing as cancelled. Freshers week is the week they should be pushing it the most to get it known to the students. Also wondering why just the one journey would be cancelled when all of the other ones are still showing as running?
Can only assume it was an error.

Enviro400 33923 is the vehicle of choice tonight.

After a bit of a failure trying to get the night 20 on Tuesday we got on it tonight and the bus had completely filled up by Adelphi leaving a large crowd behind at castle street. The loading times were incredibly long at all stops, hopefully the success carries on through the year.

The bus of choice was one of the Glasgow livery Enviro 400s, unsure of fleet number.

It was 33904 tonight. Quite a long duty for the vehicle considering it left the depot to start on the 20 at 7am.

Would the bus have been refuelled during the day at some point or would it have had enough to run for almost 21hrs?
Easily doable for a bus round a city.

Remember that a bus generally speaking has between 200-300ltrs of fuel.

I’m sure in the case of those 400 Deckers it’s 250ltr.

Even the Yutongs could likely do it considering they're often out on higher mileage routes for comparable periods of time, although unlikely considering the duty is booked to be decker operated.

Just noticed that 69254, 69133/32 have been taken off Bustimes.org. Are these being turned into driver trainers?
They were taken off fleet over the weekend. As per the other withdrawn Euro 6 B7RLEs they will transfer to the Glasgow training fleet if required.

If not, somewhere else down south will get them as they have Euro6 emissions.

23 September 2023 update:-

There was no sign of these 3 buses at the depot today, so I assume that they must have departed.

Bendy 11113 out until 22:25 tonight on the 2. Must be one of the latest one of these has been out in a while? Also a hydrogen out on the night 20 by the looks of it.

69126 has now returned from trainer conversion and has replaced 69124. 69128 is away for conversion at the moment, once it returns 69150 will be withdrawn.

That specific duty is usually E500 or Citaro operated. 'All The Ones' (Citaro 11111) was on the same duty the week prior (16th).

A number of E500s are now at Caledonia. Was weird to see them again on passing the depot.
38204 and 38214 are the E500s in question. Three more are due to come off this week.

33917 and 33918 have returned to Caledonia also, those two were just on loan for Off Shore Europe.

Looks as though there are 6 more E500s off fleet now: 38203, 38204, 38207, 38212, 38214, 38222. I guess they will be going south to Ensign like the ones from First South West.

Does anyone know why Glasgow and Aberdeen keep flip-flopping the E400s about? As some that have been sent to Aberdeen work there for a short time, just to end up coming back to Glasgow for some reason, to be swapped with other ones?

To be painted in green is the most likely reason. They were needed for the Offshore Europe exhibition and stayed to release some Enviro500s.

Aberdeen are short on buses again due to poor availability of the E400s and the Hydrogen pump at Kittybrewster failing again

33104, 33109 and 67820 have arrived on loan from Glasgow while 20613 and 20806/7 are being used on the 1A.

You know they're short when they're putting coaches out!

The issues have all been to do with the refueling pump at Kittybrewster which has been in operation for nearly a decade now. It's incompetence from the council and poor investment in infrastructure rather than anything with the vehicles or technology itself...

Coaches have been used on service work in the past when they've been short of buses. However the last time was probably around 7 years ago.

37268 has arrived from Glasgow this evening.

Hind sight is a wonderful thing but had First known what difficulties lay ahead - perhaps they’d have opted for something different.

These buses will have been out of service coming up for 2 years which is just ridiculous. At this point - does Aberdeen still really need them?

The coaches are hardly in a fit state either! While people were disembarking from 20613 at Castle street the stairs by the door collapsed with the driver having to kick them back into place.

Use First Glasgow and its lacklustre electric fleet as a reference point, they would not have done anything different, guaranteed.

Having had my share of driving at Aberdeen, the fundamentals with the company still remain the same; poor decisions & buses they purchased weren’t up to the job. External factors are also relevant with regards to reliability.

Hydrogen buses in Aberdeen in the past weren’t reliable, let alone relying on an external source of fueling them.

The issues with the Vanhools were not related to the Hydrogen technology but rather the non-Hydrogen related components of the vehicles themselves.

Can the buses not use the H2 refuelling point on Langdykes Road?

Or does that not have the capacity for the fleet?

Or are there other reasons why it can't be used?

It does not have the capacity to fuel buses. It was only designed to supply cars and vans.
