It is a person hit by a train, the reasons they were on the track and then hit by the train will be the subject of an investigation.

Oh God, saw that voyager trundling into Exeter at about 10 to 5 thinking it was a bit weird. Not good to hear :(

Saw on Twitter earlier there was some idiot on the FGW feed slating FGW for having foot crossings on fast railway lines, most amusing when he was shot down in flames by BTP who stated the incident didn't involve any crossing at all!

Its always the railways fault isnt it, the railways would close all foot crossings tomorrow if they could.

There is a campaign down Penzance way to get that foot crossing (where the woman was killed a couple of years ago) to the beach re-opened because its too far to walk around to the next (level) crossing.

Out of interest, what would it cost to replace a foot crossing with some sort of prefabricated foot bridge? Presumably s sufficiently lightweight prefabricated design could be manufactured that would be usable on all double track railway lines?

Ofcourse many of the places along lines like the coast near Dawlish might complain that they were eyesores...

Either way thoughts to all concerned.

No idea of the cost and not sure that many on here would know, but I may be proved wrong. They're looking to put in a footbridge at one of our stations. Not sure if this is a knee jerk reaction to a lady who had a glancing blow but survived when, as I understand it, she was on her phone and not looking as she crossed. That said, the temporary bridge they're supposedly putting in will obscure sighting of a stop signal and I reckon it'll be a SPAD risk. The bridge will be bang smack at the end of a small country platform and I can't see them putting a banner repeater in...

But the bridge will have to be DDA compliant and so will have to have looooooonnnnnngggggg ramps which can be used by wheelchairs etc and so a simple lightweight structure is now a huge behemoth weighing 20 tonnes and an absolute eyesore to boot.

Who pays for that little lot?

Remember all the pomp about NR building a road bridge to replace Ufton Nervert level crossing?
The council have rejected the plans on the grounds that the bridge will obscure the views of some residents!

Yep seriously because it will block somebodies view they wont allow the replacing of a(perfectly safe but abused) level crossing with a bridge even though they have been asking for one for years!
