I feel sorry for both FK and its passengers in the Penzance area travelling between 1900 and 0700 the following morning this week. The Tesco roundabout just to the east of the town is closed between those hours, meaning access both to the town and to the by-pass are denied from anywhere further afield without long diversions over roads unsuitable for two-way lorry or bus traffic, and this includes all journeys between Long Rock depot and Pz bus station. The problems have been compounded by what appear to be 'local initiatives' that have resulted in eastbound traffic being blocked from passing the Longboat hotel to turn left at the laundrette. Tonight at 1915 an Olympian appeared to be stranded outside the Longboat and, at 1935, having spent 20 minutes in taking my car a crow-flies 200 yards to my garage, a Trident was in the Greenmarket westbound lay-by without lights with another Trident, unblinded, passing it. Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on?

Busaholic is the Tesco roundabout actually totally closed? The West Briton suggested the signage was inaccurate and there would be temporary traffic lights to take the traffic the wrong way round the roundabout. It also reported the closed signs were to encourage traffic to avoid the area due to anticipated long delays.
I imagine the road from ludgvan to gulval may get gridlocked!

I saw evidence of temporary traffic lights during Monday daytime, following Sunday night's supposed closure - I went through there at 18.50. The roundabout at Heamoor was denying access to the eastbound by-pass that evening at 19.15, even to the Treneere estate, and if that was so again tonight with a lorry physically stopping anything at the Longboat (opposite the station) then Heamoor to Gulval would be the only way (believe me, Gulval to Ludgvan is a doddle compared to that, once past Gulval church!)

No evidence of temporary lights in position when I went through both yesterday and today at 18.53ish, only orange jackets busting to get the roads closed.

A30 eastern green to madron rd (heamoor) is supposed to be closed, diversion back of sainsburys then along to the station with only one side of the roundabout open each night and then along the seafront then up past the rugby club according to Cornwall council website. When you say a Lorry stopping everything, is it stuck or doing a delivery? If the latter Cornwall council have failed to implement a temporary no stopping restriction through the diversion.

The lorry was Cormac i.e. Cornwall Council, parked with headlights blazing/flashing lights the wrong way round, so quite deliberate. CC is held in very low opinion in this part of Kernow.

Or pretty much any part of Cornwall not near Truro...

Indeed, but in 'Cornishman' newspaper poll taken at the time of creation of this Unitary Authority 90% were opposed. This fact did not go unnoticed by the powers-that-be who seem to seek their revenge on West Cornwall by the implementation of their so-called 'policies'.

After last night's chaos, things were quite sanguine tonight : indeed, the work scheduled for six nights may be virtually complete after three.

On the happier subject of bus operation, the open-top Olympian has been active again, first in transporting Olympic Gold Medal winner Helen Glover and her entourage last Sunday on a tour of Newlyn and Penzance prior to a civic reception, then today it was on the 17B at lunchtime and the 300/1A on their respective last journeys this evening. It is appropriately emblazoned on the front with Helen's name. An Olympian indeed - what a very satisfying conclusion to its commercial career.

There are upcoming overnight road closures on Richmond Hill and Station Road in Truro for resurfacing works. These will take place from 26th to 30th September and again from 3rd to 7th October between the hours of 7pm and 7am. Limited access will be available for people living and working in the area affected.

I assume bus services will be re-routed during the closures but have not seen anything to this effect.

Volvo 69218 broke down in Truro bus station this afternoon, it was recovered by Cornwall Commercials and towed to Summercourt.

Trident 33112 was seen on service U1.

Thanks Colin, just to confirm you saw 33422 the blue E400 at Truro College? It has moved from it's parking space at Camborne a few days ago and I was not sure where it was.

Yes it was on Camborne garage but a man came out of the office and checked over and then it was in Truro probably going in Penzance direction on a school run.

I saw it yesterday in Penzance bus station. The livery with full branding applied looked superb. Can't wait to see the MMCs in these colours.

Thanks for that link, it certainly does look smart for a Enviro. Thought I have one question about these two, although the majority of the U services will be operated by new E400s, I thought there was an age limit on the vehicles used on these services? Hence the 12 plate vehicles starting the original service?

The age limit I understand to be an average age, to allow for other vehicles to occasionally cover, brand new buses will bring the average low enough with 08 plates to keep it below a 5 year average. If I've worked it out right from the timetables the 3 U services require 11 vehicles and only 10 MMCs on order for U services.
