Do they actually reveal their fares (e.g. show you which stops are within which zones, or how the fares are calculated) or do you not find out until you get on the bus?

Judging by what you say "First South Yorkshire" it sounds like you can go much further for your money than I can on my Card, which only allows travel in Zones 1 & 2 (which are advertised on bus stops), however single and return fares are still rather odd.

The deregulation and removal of LA-run services has been a total sham for everyone, except the people running such services, and poorly doing so. Service standards and passenger numbers have declined, vital services have been cut, and subsidy and fare levels have increased.

Across the country, FirstGroup companies have been brought to public inquiry by Traffic Commissioners for maintenance and service failures. Fines and license limitations have been imposed, and regulators themselves have expressed frustration at First's performance.
