It isn't just that: two of the companies involved- a major sportswear firm and a TV company- are American, the bribes were channeled through the Bank of America, and the person who's singing like a canary is a US citizen up on charges of tax evasion.

I don't agree that Blatter's position is under threat. Blatter is a clever person, and if corruption is as endemic as it appears in FIFA, any attempt to bring him down will simply see him squeal like a piggy. You don't force out the man who knows where the (figurative) bodies are buried.

Let him squeal then, the man is corrupt and runs a corrupt organisation, it's about time him and his acolytes were held to account, or should we all sit and say nothing that might rock the boat so that he can continue to behave the way he does ?

If FIFA was a business or political organisation people would be screaming the house down, why should we ignore his behaviour because he holds the role of Grand Dictator of a sports organisation ?

All the African countries will vote for Blatter as they're just as corrupt if not more.

Blatter will be fine to continue after all he has the support of Putin, the bastion of rule abiding and fair play.

On a more serious note, if they do decide (as we all already have) that the 2018 bid was flawed, where will it go? The other bids were Spain/Portugal, England and Netherlands/Belgium.

Considering the economy in the Iberian Peninsula, they won't want to spend any money, and they have plenty of deserted building sites already and some of the proposed stadiums are currently being expanded to be ready for 2016/7. They were the runners up though.

The Netherlands and Belgium proposed expanding quite a few of their 20k capacity stadiums to 40k+ but there won't be time to do that now.

Also, FIFA have previously stated they prefer single country hosts.

That leaves England which has sufficient modern stadiums to do the job. If FIFA DO want to spread it to more countries, add in the Millennium Stadium, one of the 3 Glasgow stadiums, perhaps even the Aviva in Dublin.

All we need then is HS2, 3 and 4 build by 2018, simples.

*starts singing: It's coming home .....

Wait, I'm Dutch!

You misunderstood me.

I mean the association delegates won't hang him out to dry, because he would be able to bring the whole lot down with him. They will all sit tight and hope the storm doesn't reach them.

He isn't untouchable, but when he is collared it won't be a FIFA delegate who does it.

Fair enough, good to see justice has been done.

However, I have my doubts as to whether he will still be there - high price strikers at clubs that have gone down more often go rather than stay.

I was astounded to hear on the news this morning that nearly 2,000 construction workers have lost their lives in Qatar, surely somebody has some serious explaining to do? I really cannot see that tournament ever happening anyway.

The 133 to 73 vote on the first vote did not meet the required percentage, but the challenger pulled out when the second vote was then required.

The second round would have been a waste of time, it's obvious who would have won hence his only opponent withdrawing

So football gets everything it deserves, what chance that those who voted against him will take any action, odds are they'll just sit back, do nothing and allow the game to be corrupted for another 4 years, then probably another 4 years ad infinitum, hell, why not stuff Blatter when he finally kicks the bucket and carry on electing him anyway

Unfortunately of the 209 Affiliates entitled to vote , the vast majority are from Third World and despotic regimes where corruption is endemic and part of everyday life.

This may be one occasion where one man or should I say Country one vote is not necessarily a good idea. Perhaps only the established members with a 50 year plus pedigree should be entitled to vote, or have some form of weighted influence.

Sepp is a bit of a dinosaur , the Mugabe of football :p

He's 80 odd, he ain't going to live forever more.

His daughter in a recent interview reckons the only way of him quitting is if he dies

If anyone fancies being a part-owner of a club, you can, for the princely sum of eight pounds and fifty pence, purchase a share in Real Oviedo, a Spanish club currently in Segunda B (the third tier) and in the playoffs for promotion into the second tier.
The deadline is midnight tonight, so three-and-a-half hours left.
Buy online at: http://www.locosporverteganar.com/index-EN.asp You'll be in very good company as, along with Michu, Santi Cazorla and Juan Mata (all ex-Oviedo players), the world's richest man Carlos Slim owns a substantial holding.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
FC United of Manchester 0...Benfica B 1

This celebratory friendly match against a strong Portuguese side, played in front of a crowd attendance of 4,232, was played in the newly-completed club ground at Broadhurst Park, Moston, Manchester.

FC United of Manchester are now the largest fan-owned club in the country and after their recent promotion, they will be playing in the newly-named National League North next season.

The FBI don't mess about when it comes to corruption. For them to have gone as far as they have (arrests in Switzerland, extradition etd) they KNOW they have sufficient evidence to convict those FIFA officials.

US justice relies heavily on plea bargaining. Thats how the FBI work, get a good case against the foot soldiers, who then get a lesser sentence in return for digging the dirt on those above them.

Blatter won't last 4 years, nowhere near. Biggest problem will be extraditing him.
