Wouldn't have Boateng or De Gea on the bench!

My First XI would be:
Lloris
Florenzi, R. Sigurdsson, A. Williams, De Sciglio
R. Sanches, Ramsey, Payet, Perisic
Bale, Griezmann

Subs:
GK: Buffon, Neuer
DE: Bonucci, Koscielny
MF: Allen, Ozil, Ronaldo
FW: Hamsik, Robson-Kanu

Moving away from Euro 2016 and Oldham manager job is still rumbling on...

Manager job at Oldham maybe coming to end (finally) as rumours that former Oldham player Shefki Kuqi is set to appoint as new manager in next couple of days and Sean O'Driscoll coming in as director of football, I guess bring O'Driscoll would mean if Kuqi does terrible job our owner have already got someone there to replace him.

When I posted this on 29th June I thought Oldham would have new manager in next couple of days but 24 hours later Kuqi pull out of job at last minute (believe deal collapsed something that keep happening at Oldham) and week later we still haven't found new manager but latest news is Steve Robinson who were part of Northern Ireland coach role in Euro 2016 is set to become new Oldham manager. I believe that when they confirm it on Oldham Athletic site.

In your midlfield, you show Ramsey as preferred to Ozil. I find that decision very hard to understand in terms of experience of high-quality International football.

However, your decision to select Robson-Kanu, as being on the bench, with only 4 goals in 34 International matches when Giroud with 20 goals in 53 International matches is not even mentioned leaves me somewhat amazed.

I am sure that Ronaldo, the captain of Portugal whose team has actually progressed to the final of the Euro 2016 competition will be utterly enthralled by your decision to award him a place on the bench. Do I need to remind you that he has scored 61 goals in 132 International matches and in first-class competitive football, has scored 487 goals in 673 first-class football matches.

With as much objectivity as I can muster for the winker he hasn't been that good for Portugal

Michel Platini scored 9 goals in 5 games at Euro 84 but nobody would pick him because it's recent form that matter

61 goals in 132 International matches..."hasn't been all that good for Portugal"..

What bench-mark do you use? You say that it's recent form that matters so do you feel that his headed goal, where he rose and towered over his marking defender in the last semi-final match was not important?

He has been scoring countless goals each season in high-quality league against high-quality defenders and has no need to prove himself.

Why does the term "winker" keep being applied to him, when that occurrence was so long ago. People need to move forward.

Euro 2016. It's a fair metric given the context.

Everyone has to prove themselves worthy of a spot. Club football and international football are two very different beasts as I'm sure England can attest to. Can you say he's better than one of these four R. Sanches, Ramsey, Payet, Perisic. For me no.

In my mind it's a SFW substitute for a different word but YMMV. Now he just shakes his rear at the cameraman.

To tell you the truth, he really hasn't done much for Portugal in his usual position. He's more like bait than cannon in practice.

Yet, he does well playing as a defender when the team needs it. So that's a plus. I think...

Why not post your own team, then? ;)

Of course you have every right to express your own personal opinion upon this thread and I too have the same right to disagree.

It is when you give Ramsey as a comparative to Ronaldo, I tend to fall off my new computer chair convulsed with uncontrollable laughter...:D:D:D

Before you go to sleep tonight, I want you to kneel at the side of your bed and offer up a prayer asking the forgiveness of your transgressions to St Paul McGrath.

You do that. I hope you don't succumb to an injury.

I don't know what to say. I merely hope that was in jest.

This is team of the tournament not whos best overall. Ozil played well, Ramsey showed his class and showed Wales missed him significantly in the semi.
In relative ranking terms, ramsey made so much more of a difference to the team than Ozil did.

Giroud is hit and miss and moves with all the muster of a glacier. Robson-Kanu had a solid tournament but not world class.

Meh to Ronaldo, he plays well when he's in the mood. Had a few good goals and a spot of showboating but the class he could show isn't there. Griezmann doing that for him.

Unlike you young people who naively offer your expertise in team selection for free upon an internet forum, whilst I am not averse to commenting upon iniquities, my considered actual team selection opinion is chargeable at the equivalent rate to that of any hedge fund senior analyst and the usual conditions of payment untraceability of tax evasion purposes must apply. I cannot forgive any banking whistleblowers in Switzerland for what they chose to do...<(

If you ever remember "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin", you will remember that he worked at Sunshine Desserts where "CJ" the top man (played so well by John Barron) always had sayings that began with..."I didn't get where I am today by...."

Well, that is very similar to my outlook on life. The rich get richer and the poor get The Jeremy Kyle Show, Foxy Bingo.com (enough to warrant the immediate bringing back of foxhunting), Britain's Got Talent (a blatant lie) and all the other mindless dross that is served up for their delectation.

Just reading all of this rubbish makes a certain clinic in Switzerland quite a bit more inviting...

Mine in Switzerland that uses a clinic as a front is in reality a banking facility whereas the one to which I am sure to which you allude is the euthanasia clinic called Dignitas.

Whilst I am 71, life still offers all its wide horizons open to me in which both my good lady wife and I can enjoy the remainder of our lives in the appreciation of fine food, life membership of the National Trust, a high standard of living in a seven-figure valued property that is perfect for us and the ability to go where we want when we want.

I mustard mitt that yours and Paul's comments have made me chuckle. What would we do without Paul's archaic verses?

Anyway, back to football. Has anyone made any score predictions for the final, tomorrow? I predict a win for France, possibly 2-1.

The thing is, I still don't know whether or not Paul was joking.

I reckon that France could win 3-1. Portugal could win, but they'd have to take the lead and we've seen that France can be very powerful from the get-go. Portugal won't score once France have, unless they make substitutions.

Hard to tell, you get the impression that he doesn't grasp sarcasm at times.

As for the score, that is also a possibility. I'd rather see Portugal win, mind you.

I think it's more that you expect the types of things that he says to be limited to satirical comedians doing right-wing parodies.

I don't think there'll be many neutrals supporting Portugal (although that by definition stops them from being neutrals. They've been stolid and uninspiring - I'd much rather watch Italy, Spain or Croatia play - and in Ronaldo they have an utterly loathsome figurehead.

I don't have much of an issue with Ron, I forgave him a few years ago for leaving Man utd against my wishes. What I'm not keen on about Portugal is that they beat Wales, a game in which they played better than expected, so supporting them is a tough pill to swallow. Choosing between France and Portugal is not an easy choice to make!

Why? France are a great team who score good goals. They're hosting the tournament and are actually entertaining. True François Hollande may have been disparaging about Scottish independence, but then again Mariano Rajoy was even worse.

Expect France to line up like this again:

4-2-3-1: Lloris; Sagna, Koscielny, Umtiti, Évra; Pogba, Matuidi; Payet, Griezmann, Sissoko; Giroud

Once they score some goals, Kanté will come on.

Yes, no doubt they are a good team. It's just because... they're French. Either way, at least we know that the winners of Euro 2012 will not be winning this.

Remember what I said earlier about certain forum members failing to grasp humour?

I know that you're joking, but at the same time I don't find that very funny. After all the xenophobia of the referendum, it's not something that I want to hear jokes about, I'm afraid.

tl;dr - "not gonna bother"

I'm not commenting because both teams I supported in the semis lost but I still can't bring myself to (pretend) to follow Portugal to curse them.

Because the French are cheese eating surrender monkeys!

Also, their beer tastes funny

And they eat frog's legs and snails. Not normal.
