It might be that some sort of "gardening leave" period is enforced on Bruce, which would rather impact his preparations for the season to come.

It'll be interesting if Newcastle draw Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup!
As a long time Newcastle fan who has seen the highs and the lows, I can't remember a time when we've gone into a new season and I've felt as pessimistic at this.
Also, Newcastle fans' expectations are not unrealistically high. Most fans aren't bothered if we don't win things, but most fans are bothered if we don't even try. As long as the players give 100% and the club is looking to be better, that's all I ask.
As one fan once put it on a banner: "We don't demand a team that wins. We demand a club that tries."

Oh they were comedy gold at one point. Do you remember the Three Legends Football Phone in on Century/Star Radio? Newcastle fans were always out of control with their expectations. It was hilarious and superb to listen to if you were a fan of any other north east club. Ashley has killed all of that off to the level that, for the first time, I actually feel sorry for Newcastle fans. They are so crushed and broken down.
Anyway how do you support the Mags living in Houghton? Surely that is solid Sunderland. All my family are from there and are Sunderland. I have never seen a Newcastle fan. Brave man
NOTE: The 3 Legends Football Phone in was a long running football phone in on north east radio featuring Bernie Slaven ( Middlesbrough) Malcolm MacDonald ( Newcastle) and Eric Gates (Sunderland) (The later was replaced by Micky Horswill and i think Dickie Ord later on)

I'm originally from Seaham, which is probably even more red and white! The reason is because I wasn't really into club football until my later teens when I was attending college in Durham. I made some new friends there who were all Newcastle fans and their enthusiasm just spread, really. It was also as they were just taking off under Keegan and I've followed them ever since. There are a fair few black and whites in Houghton - particularly the north part of Houghton - Newbottle, Fencehouses, Bournmoor etc.
I do remember the Legends. Used to listen to it right up until it ended. Some good banter on there, although Malcolm MacDonald used to irritate me a bit.

When I first saw the spoof kit, I was livid for about two minutes before remembering what Paddy Power are like! That everyone involved held their nerve for 48 hours is quite impressive.
Love the real, sponsor-free kit though, I'll be picking one up shortly.

The East of Scotland League kicked off yesterday as well. I was away so missed Ormiston’s first match but they apparently put up a good fight and only lost 2-1. Hopefully they’ll get points of some sort on Wednesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo in the news again. To cut a long story short, he is being sued by a bunch of South Korean fans because he didn't come on the pitch during a Juventus friendly over there. One aspect of the lawsuit is that each fan wants around £700 in compensation for "mental anguish".

What competition was that in, as it certainly not a league match in the Highland League, in which they have played two matches this season, lost both of them and occupy their usual place at the bottom of the league.

Looks just like last season from Leeds. Great with the ball, great going forward, dodgy keeper. If we don't address our obvious deficiencies, and try a championship season with a small squad, it will be an entertaining, exciting but ultimately fruitless season once again.

Well I’ve just signed myself up to start the SFA referee course in Edinburgh a week tomorrow. I’m now questioning why I’ve done so - who in their right mind signs up to be subjected to such abuse?

I’ve just finished watching ‘The Fort’ on the iPlayer. Have to say it was a lot better than I thought it would be.
As a follower of another non-league club though I think a lot of their issues aren’t unique to themselves though - apart from the results obviously
. A lot of non-league clubs struggle for players and people for a committee, and many have long serving members who are there through thick and thin.

You'd be forgiven for thinking we weren't playing and it was Spurs Vs who knows. Thank goodness for local radio commentators
Edit: I've not missed the ****ty behaviour of players in crowding the ref especially after watching the women's world cup

After a summer of insanity at Bradford, Garry Thompson has been sacked as player-manager after just two games in charge. Is this some sort of record? Garry had never managed before and both were embarrassingly bad 5-0 defeats.

I can’t remember the ins and outs of it but there was a manager a few years ago that only lasted two days in his job - without even having a game.

I think the record is Leroy Rosenior, who was manager of Torquay United for less than an hour.
